Coming into this test Hughes had 4 50s and 5 scores above 40 overall in 8 tests.
Much better form than Cowan and Warner and Watson.
In the early 80's our batting was good, it was only after the big 3 retired and we lost a heap of experience to the rebel tours did we turn to shit. Plus we had AB who was better than Clarke. Was our batting this bad in the early 80s?
It's like comparing Shitchell pearce to Joey Johns.Comparing Hughes to Trott & Amla is fairly laughable. Hughes' average is more comparable to someone like Ian Healy.
It's not a question of being test quality or not. It's a question of being one of the 6 best batsmen your country has. Watson and Hughes certainly are.Wato, you're dead right, but your argument will be fruitless against that dickhead BM.
Hughes has struggled to have an average that rivals a competent number 7 or 8 batsmen for quite some time now against quality opposition.
He is not test quality sadly. Neither is Watson, Warner or Cowan imo.
But they'll keep getting picked.
