Here i was about to comment on the kiwis half century. Brownlie goes out to a wayward Strac who doesn't deserve it. Not sure if it's the batting or bowling putting me to sleep?

It was Southee. Brownlie is still there.

There are too many in their top 5 that are prone to brain explosions. McCullum, Ryder, Taylor, Guptill are all a bit like that.

It's been their problem for years. Astle, McMillan, Vincent were similar.

Whatever happened to BJ Watling? He looked to be a fairly steady openor that they could have used.

Watling is in the squad so I assume next cab off the rank.

Neil Broom is another one who could be considered. Played a few ODI games but was never given a chance in Test's. Averages over 41 in FC games which puts him well above Watling and Flynn who would be another consideration. Not sure how he's been going in recent games.

Slim pickings unfortunately, but I'd prefer the NZ batting line up were filled with guys who would fight rather than the mental pansies we have in their now.

I think Australia should declare there first innings closed now to give the kiwi openers a chance to get their pads on now and be ready to come back out when this last wicket falls. I know there's still one wicket to fall, but that'll happen soon enough. Why would the aussie batsmen risk their averages on a pitch that might still be a little dodgy.

Also Pattinson could have a crack at getting the hat trick now instead of later.

I just saw Brownlie get out 4 minutes after that was posted and I started thinking my coverage was delayed.

How easy is test cricket. Consecutive 5fers and will be on a hat trick in the 2nd innings.

Starc looked alot better in his second spell, some pretty good deliveries, good swing and some seaming across the right handers

he could make a test bowler one day but seems to be a year or two off just yet
