You mean the recent tests in recent weeks that are relevant or the tests from last year? You might as well go back a little further to South Africa 2009 and include his entire career ffs
Hughes haters logic:

The following tests dont count: tests Hughes has scored runs in
The following tests DO count: tests he has failed in.

If he's done well more than once in recent tests, then obviously we count back as far as we need to so his average is as low as we want it to be, but by no means do we go as far back as when he did do well.

Hughes: So how do you think I should grip the bat most effectively.
Langer: Zen. You gotta be zen.
Hughes: What about my backfoot. Tips on how to get that right?
Langer: Haydos and me had an epic bromance. To be a great opener you need to be in a bromance.
Hughes: fmd.

Also it's been announced Khawaja and Hughes have been selected in the Chairmans 11 to play India in the warmup.

Looks like Khawajas current dig, the second innings (if the Kiwis are good enough to make us bat twice) and the India warmup will be a shootout to stay in the team between those two.

Marsh and Warner in the Chairmans 11 aswell.

4 way contest, the two highest scorers open the batting on boxing day while Watson goes down the order?

you really think test selection gets down to one invitational ODI game ?

3 dayer*

And a) none of the contenders, with the possible exception of Marsh, have really demanded a spot with their recent play AND b) if India play their frontline bowlers, we'll get an idea how each reacts to this specific attack. For example the Indians might not be as effective at exposing Hughes as the Kiwis were.

If the Shield bowlers aren't giving him the test he needs then Hughes should get another County contract, they have the decks to test him out.

I'd agree with this.

Even if he scores runs in the 2nd innings/tour match and keeps his spot. He is a bit like Slater and Langer in that he's seen as a Test player and not a limited overs player so his workload wouldn't be that high. Even if he cements a spot in the team he should go and play county cricket.

Having said that, he has done it before. He played 3 county games for Middlesex before the 09 Ashes...got a century in each game.

Well he went back the next season with his new technique and failed miserably. His old technique might have been ugly but it was the one which was scoring him the runs and the one which got through SA and that was the one you speak of regarding his 3 hundreds.

Imagine going to that dopey Merkin Langer for help????

Watch the ball and win the battles was the best advice he gave Hughes last year before playing England  And he kept his job

It is extremely clear Langer is useless and needs to go. I really feel for Hughes, he has no glint in his eye anymore. He should be having the time of his life playing for Australia right now. Needs a Hayden like stint in the shield to rediscover his mojo.

I really hope Warner makes runs today, I feel he will give us some fear factor in the batting order again if he develops they way I think he can.

I'm sad for Warner because I like him and he was doing alright, I really like the way his batting has evolved since he came onto the scene. I hope he does something in the second innings.
