He's definitely not ready at this stage. What he has going for him though is that he is a genuine left arm quick and he has the ability to bring the ball back into the right handers and the kid is only 21.

However, atm, he's getting carried away with the pace he can bowl at and he drops far too short too often. His length is a worry at this stage. I'm positive that he'll sort it out though and along with a bit more fire in the belly, he'll come back to international cricket a far more dangerous player.

I would assume he's just filling in at this stage?

Agree with all of that. Surely the fact he's bowled pretty much how he bowls in the shield should ensure he's just a fill in for the tie being. But he should be learning his trade for NSW not Australia. Having left arm variety is not more valuable than actually being test quality. Hopefully Dougeh has a good game in the three dayer against the Indians. If not then pick the three best right armers.

This is what Hughes needs to do. Leave on length and then throw the sink at anything overpitched.

Once he gets to 30 or so and the cordon thins out he can look to score behind point, but until he's set he just needs to leave that area alone.

I agree, no problems with 3 right armers, pick you best 3 imo

they put too much emphasis on what they refer to as balanced attack

we had no problems playing McGrath, Lee and Dizzy in the same team, we didn't suffer from not having a left armer back then

Kiwi's probably figured they'd get Hughes a couple of balls later.

Just wonder if there's some target Hughes needs to reach to get another match.

A long way to go, but if he can keep this up... Well who knows what the selectors will decide.

Both these guys are settled now, NZ stupid for not referring Hughes.

no more stupid that when Australia didn't refer that feather off Taylor. Getting given not out for fine edges or small kisses on the gloves is hardly a crime. DRS isn't really to overturn those (although if you get one good luck to you).

it shouldn't really get down to what he does in one innings but who knows what the selectors are thinking

it may also depend on what Warner and Oozi do

and nor will we in future with Cummins, Hazelwood and Pattinson if they all come good. Pick your best quicks and have an extra smile if one of them is a cack-hander.

Great shot Warner.

If he makes a 100 it would be dam hard to push him considering there are others that haven't made 1 hundred let alone 2 in the period he would have.

Also on Ponting, and on how Watson and Marsh shape up.

If Watson's fit he plays. Marsh might not be in the same boat. He'll need a performance in the 3-dayer (or at least the other three to fail).

Lots of ways it could go.

A lot depends on his relative score to Warner and Khawaja.

If he gets 50 and neither of them get past 30 he's safe.

If they do well he needs to do at least as well.

Regardless of what they do, if he gets 100 can't see him getting dropped.
