How did we allow the the kiwis to make 226 on this pitch?
Any teams needing a new batting coach, we'll throw in Langer and a free set of steak knives
shittles last couple of overs of poo could cost us. The fapping over him by all and sundry on a wicket which was tailor made for him is laughable.

They should go in the order of Hughes, Hussey, Ponting

Can't do it all at once though

Well, of those three, Hughes will DEFINITELY be gone after this test. With Watson coming back, Warner's century in this match consolidates his position as the other opener for the Boxing Day test. As someone posted yesterday, although the opening partnership was building steadily, in reality Warner and Hughes were competing against each other for the other opening spot alongside Watson.

Regarding Hussey and Ponting, I cannot see either of them dropped by the selectors until the end of the test series vs India at the earliest. If neither of them perform during that series, at 36 and 37 yrs old respectively, both of them will be forced to retire. However, Ponting is under a lot more pressure than Hussey, as Hussey has been Australia's best batsman for the past 12 months (dating back to the Ashes last year, not to forget his performance vs Sri Lanka), whereas Ponting's Mark Taylor/Hussey/Hayden streak of 30+ innings without a century is definitely under the microscope. Excluding the dodgy 205 he got vs Pakistan, his last legitimate century was back in July 2009 at Cardiff

Surely we have lost it, but I would absolutely love Warner to pull this out just to hear Ian Smith have a heart attack on national TV

I'm partial to leaving Ponting in due to experince etc...In the past our good batsmen would always be making sure, when partnered up with the tailenders, to always keep the score ticking over but at the same time making sure of retaining the strike as much as possible. We don't seem to protect our tail these days.. and ease a bit of pressure off them? :?

Problem is, who do you replace them with? Hughes has to go, that's a given. Ponting has more runs than Khawaja, so against India his experience and slightly better form gets him over the line IMO. And I was calling for his head earlier in the season. Hussey and Khawaja are then fighting for one spot, assuming the selectors go with Marsh.

Apparently we need Marsh and Watson so there's two. Dan Christian will play IMO if Watson is not fit. Ed Cowan has come up a fair bit recently.

I know you were but not many else.

I believe the three most experienced players in the team are responsible for us more than likely losing today. Hussey got a good ball to be fair but Ponting and Clarke straight up threw it away when we needed them.

Fair enough. I just think it's harsh to pick on Siddle and Pattinson rather than, say, Pup and Ponting. The mindset of a tail ender in this situation is pretty much "f**kf**kf**kf**kf**kf**kf**kf**kf**k why am I out here?"

Agreed.

I was just picking on those 3 cause I'm following the game on cricinfo and the space of 2 overs those 3 got out in the same way.

Pretty sure Ponting and Clarke both got out prodding too.

Langer needs a bullet.

They haven't won a test match in Australia since 1985. That's 26 years.
And the last time they beat Australia in any test match was 1993. 18 years.

So this would be fairly significant for New Zealand cricket/

it would still be only a drawn series and we have played them f**k all in that time

this is really exciting. Test cricket is the greatest thing on Earth.
I still think Australia will win, but I could easily be wrong.

Where are the calls to drop Ponting and Hussey?

I think the calls for Ponting are out, thats for sure.

Hussey was our "best bat" up until the start of south africa, so I dont know how long that keeps him free. But...

1) Hussey - 7 innings without a fifty.
2) Khawaja - 1 fifty from 11 innings.
3) Hughes - 1 fifty and 1 hundred from his last twenty innings. 5 Innings without a fifty.
4) Ponting - Almost two years since a ton. I think only 3 fifties in the last 12 months (Didnt look up going off memory).

So much choice
