Pakistan are gonna get thrashed in this test, a agonisingly close run chase like that doesn't give you confidence,it's demoralizing and causes people to wanna choke puppies to death.

Australia by 8 lengths eased up

. I'm probably missing something obvious but I can't remember the last time a result in the Sydney test determined who won the series overall.
The last time a the final Test of a series was played in Sydney and the series was level at the start of the match was against India in 2003/4.

Spot fixing is definitely cheating. Just a different kind.

Warne is a deadshit waste of oxygen but I don't think anyone seriously believes he was taking performance enhancing drugs

I think he was to aid in recovery from a shoulder injury to make the world cup.

Agree - but if all Amir did was bowl a no ball or two (guess that's all that was proven) it didn't really affect the game - unlike the treachery of Haddin and Dyer :) It's a slippery slope though, and money's at the heart of it as the Pakis despite their huge talent are not paid well, and he was literally a kid - it's a great thing he was caught, and a second chance is warranted - I hope he's learned his lesson

Warne - yes, he's a disgrace - as Pete says the timing of a masking substance around an quick rehab from an injury is suspicious to say the least - as is the mother blaming, he'd been a fat merkin all his life, and suddenly he had to change? Regardless, it's a banned substance and he got off very lightly IMO - not to mention he and Waugh's previous bookie cover up - which yes was probably harmless, but it's a slope, Amir probably thought a no-ball was harmless too - and he had more right to be naïve than Warne

Basically yeah. I also think he's arrogant enough to think his performance couldn't be improved.

Essentially I think there was a lot of truth in his excuse, but that he blamed his mum for his own vanity having packed on the kgs with his injury.....because he is a total merkin

I agree. But cheating on that scale isn't on, so I can't fault anyone for thinking otherwise either.

Yeah it's cheating the bookies more than anything.

I can forgive a promising 17 year old who was probably heavied by his captain. I would imagine that the Paki ranks don't tolerate rats, and he'd have been placing his career in jeopardy. The end result was just as destructive to his career, I can forgive him based on his age and the situation he was placed in.

So, I guess the idea is that Cartwright is given a shot at 6. Maddison out. No Mitchell Marsh.

As an option, have you guys given up on Henriques? Failed in Sri Lanka, but is in good form. How does he compare to Marsh and Cartwright?

I'd say they have a line through Henriques, unfairly too. He was good in India when first picked, then they inexplicably picked him for Sri Lanka just after having his face put back together and missing like six months of cricket.

He's a better bat than Marsh easily, not as good a bowler but not too far off. Cartwright is reasonably comparable with the bat but he's not really an all rounder.

It's a joke how they pick these blokes for a test or 2 then ditch them. How about poor old Callum Ferguson-one test on a tough wicket and then chucked. I reckon Maddo will keep his spot.

Depending on which article you read, Cartright is in the squad only and others say he is in the team, fact is none of the journos are selectors so its just speculation as to whether he will play or not.

I never agreed with Madinson being selected but I think its unfair to ditch him so quickly, our team will need turnstiles if we keep picking players for one or two games.

What batsman had a worse start to a Test career? Say, over 5 innings...

I know Ken Rutherford was famously bad v the WI, but I can't access his stats on my phone

Maddo is a joke, if he wasn't from NSW he'd get the same treatment as Wade, Quiney etc.

A dud is a dud.

Rutherford was a #5 or 6 forced to open against one of the greatest fast bowling attacks ever assembled - it was tragic, and obviously going happen

Maddinson is batting #6 against decent attacks, a fellow debutant at 5 has looked good - he's been comically bad, seriously that first innings in Brisbane was as funny as you'll ever see

Variables aside, Rutherford scored 6 runs in his first 5 innings and left the WI having amassed a massive 12 runs in 7 innings. His breakthrough innings was 5 runs in the second innings at Kingston, scored off 33 balls.

I can't imagine a worse test start than that
