Their batting has been as expected. Their bowling, generally, has been the surprise.

considering we once took into an Ashes test as a specialist spinner it would not surprise me. Unless a great spinner falls into our lap, the Aussie selectors generally don’t have a clue. Steve Smith made his test debut as a bowling all rounder, and we also once took Cameron White to India as our spinner…which went about as well as you’d expect.

We had this obsession of left arm spinners because Kevin Pietersen had a supposed weakness against them.

So we punted Nathan Hauritz way too early because of it while handing out test caps to Xavier Doherty, Michael Beer & Ashton Agar in the Ashes because of it.
