It says a lot about the culture of the leadership group in the Australian squad at the time. He won’t gain any ground by throwing people under the bus but he wanted to come out and say what he really thought and what unfolded.

He’s done that and he’ll probably feel better for it. f**k Warner and Smith either way

Pretty much this. And he's helped reveal more about the toxic culture that some people still cling to as a good thing, which I can only assume is why a few are leaping on him for being honest.

The guy has owned his mistake, but because he's dated explain where it came from and exposed the culture that created it from an inside perspective people are cling him names.

Kerry is right. The fact that he would have felt as bad as he did for doing it of he'd said no, and the fact that he said yes because he felt it would help him fit in, is a damning indictment of the culture at the time.

Bancroft isnt a kid he is an adult who played cricket his whole life and was complicit.

Showing my rapidly advancing age by saying kid. But you know what I meant.

Nope its showing who Bancroft really is.

Someone who openly admits he made a massive mistake, but wants to be honest about what happened?

I don't think he covered himself with glory there, but he could have easily gone down the route of "its not my fault I was bullied into it" or he could have covered for everyone involved. At least he's had the stones to be honest about it all and give his side of the story as he sees it.

Yeah but him saying he didn't know any better is either a crock or he is as thick as two planks. To make that comment he is smearing more mud on the Aussie culture which includes himself.

What price do you put on integrity and how much thought did he have for letting down his family and all the people that helped got him where he did.

Never throw a teammate under the bus ever. Who'd want to play with this soft merkin now?

Sounded to me like he said a lot of cliched stuff he thought the public wanted to hear.

" I've learnt to love myself", etc, etc.

That was poorly worded, I thought. He said "I didn't know any better" or whatever and then he said "obviously I knew it was wrong, but..." later.

And yeah, I mean, he's clearly not the brightest. The dude took sandpaper onto a cricket field for the express purpose of altering the ball, because he wanted to fit in with the team. We know he's not Einstein.

Bullshit.

We had a guy (opposing player) go on a racist tirade against some Asian girls who walked across the field.

His captain reported him, and rang me to make sure I was going to as well.

I've sent a merkin home for abusing the opposition for daring to exercise their right to wait out a rain delay.

If a teammate grossly oversteps, as Warner did, he loses his rights to the protection of the team. I'd rather a Bancroft than a Warner in my side.

Dogging a teammate is as low a thing as you can do.
Warner is a cheat and a merkin.
Bancroft is a spinless dog of a human and cheat

Interesting interview with Bancroft.

the way I see it-

Smith abdicated leadership, therefore he should never captain again- but should bat for Australia ASAP.

Warner was the instigator- clearly bad for the team. Should never play for Australia again.

Bancroft's time has been served.

We all knew it was Warner, so this is an interesting decision by Bancroft. He’s not a walk up start for the team at all, if I was him I wouldn’t be rocking the boat. But he’s entitled to say what he wants.

Warner is an absolute toss pot who should’ve been pulled into line long ago, but that doesn’t just fall on Smith. The main ones to blame are cricket Australia.

All 3 bozos can get stuffed.

Bancroft knew it was cheating and wrong but wanted to fit in - get f**ked. Plus he's not that good anyway.

Warner is a cheat, a bully, a sook, a wanker - should never get another look in.

Smith not putting a stop to it should preclude him from ever getting near leadership anywhere again. He'll be back but as a fan any innings he plays or has played will be sullied.

Lol

You sound like a Southern Cross tatt sporting Cronulla riot instigator.

Team mates don't deserve anything more from you just because they are team mates. If they overstep, they deserve to be called on it.

No one has been "dogged". David Warner instigated a plan to deliberately cheat and he deserves his team mates utter disdain for that.

My guess

Smith will captain again

Warner will play again (at least ODI’s, T20)

Bancroft will find it hard to get back into the team.

Wow, you really don’t believe in redemption of any kind, do you?

Loyalty is everything. You clearly don't understand that
