Good declaration from Ponting, gives us a good chance to bowl them out and also gives them a sniff. I doubt he would have declared so early if Smith was able to bat.

Yeah if Smith was able to bat I would call it an awful declaration. They have plenty of time and overs to win, BUT with them virtually being one wicket down already I have no problem with the declaration.

Good move IMO. Good to see teams prepared to take a punt for once and maybe he can take a bit of shine off the new ball.

Typical of the ICC trying to justify the ranking too.

Anyway, right now the Aussie can't realistically claim to be the top nation after losing series to our two top rivals.

Having said that we really haven't been too farr off the Saffers.

In-fact with Clark back and, maybe, a fit and firing Lee again we could win the away series.

Remember that we were in a position to win all three Tests and only a lack of experience in the bowling attack counted against us.

If Clark and Lee were fit and bowling well, Johnson goes back to No.3 bowler and then you choose between Siddle, Krezja, Bollinger, Hilfy etc, it really changes everything.

I agree HD.

We havent been as far off as the critics say IMO, and if we had taken our chances, this may well have been an 'alive' test.

I certainly think we can do them over in SA.

If we do, does that place us back on top? Given that while we lost in India, we did beat them here last season.

YES

this fact is being lost on almost everyone

we had the foot on their throat in both tests and lacked the venom to kill them off

with a warne, mcgrath or dare i say a stuart clark we'd have probably killed them off in melbourne and could well have stopped the rot in perth

nothing to be scared of and nothing to be ashamed about and we're certainly not 100 yards off the pace like tony greig, LU kiwis and 1billion indians want to believe

AND BOLLINGER TAKES A WICKET
