4th Ashes Test: England v Australia at Nottingham on Aug 6-10, 2015

Starc and Johnson type bowlers only work if we have a class player like Harris never giving an inch and tying down an end. Hopefully Haze can become that

Australia must have the most impatient and immature test batting line up in the world.

Nearly all those dismissals were due to fishing at balls outside off. Pathetic.

Yeah it was pretty ordinary.

I am a bit worried that Nevill has got out a few times unsure of himself. I obviously cannot blame the poor bloke coming in at 7 after the entire top order collapses in a heap but there have been a few dismissals for Nev where he just isn't quite sure what to do.

I think Nev is just finding his feet, in a side that isn't batting well. He's used to batting higher, as well.

Hughes problem was that people told him to change the technique that served him well. No one has told Smith that, but for whatever reason he has done it anyway.

This

Hughes was going well until Cricket Australia stuffed around with his technique (not to mention Ponting stated Hughes was still too young, which is ironic given Ponting made his debut in his early 20s), and he was never the same batsman after being dropped during the 2009 Ashes (a false-claimed catch from Strauss at Lord's sealed his fate).

We are definitely missing Harris' McGrath-like consistency that was able to build pressure by tying down one end.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen a fast bowler in the lower ranks (Sheffield Shield) who is capable of doing that

That's 3!

Come on boys, if we can keep the damage to less than 150 and get some bad weather maybe we can save this.

I was out and missed the first 2 hours. Who would think I would miss an entire innings. What a disgraceful effort. The bowling hasn't been great, but the batting was stupid. They may as well have come out swinging the bat fully then dish up that garbage dabbing away at balls that should have been left for the keeper. It sh*ts me to tears how brittle this generation are now. They can't bat a session out, let alone an entire day to save a match. The way test cricket is going, we might need to have 3 innings to have a good game.

Oh well Root has passed our score:crazy:

63 not out.

They still have 7 wickets left and nearly lead by 100.

No way at all out of this now.

We are bowling too waywardly again!

Fun facts - English batting averages this series (career average in brackets):

Lyth - 12.28 (21.45)
Cook - 31.85 (46.34)
Bell - 32.00 (43.36)
Root - 77.60 (56.61)
Bairstow - 35.00 (27.30)
Stokes - 36.20 (34.56)
Buttler - 13.40 (38.64)
Ali - 38.00 (30.76)

1) It's more fun digging this shit up than watching;

2) Despite their top order failing, their middle order has taken us to the cleaners, and this has killed us, quite apart from our own batting failures. Usually Root has been the main culprit, but when he failed, Stokes did the damage instead. And Moeen Ali is an absolute pain in the arse.

Put simply, our bowlers have been clueless against England's middle and lower order.

Fine innings from Root

England scoring at 4.2 an over, and leaving good deliveries... wow.

And, btw, what happened to Warner's leg spin?

yeah, the rankings are fun and all, but anyone thinking Smith is as good as AB is insane...
