Speaking of conspiracies, I’m absolutely convinced that selections like Finch and MMarsh are to give them cover to parachute Warner straight back in. They don’t have public opinion on their side, and if Burns had come in and made a fist of it they would have been stuck.

If it wasn't for their long history of spectacularly poor selections I might agree, but I genuinely don't think they're that smart.

What we've seen is what happens when you take the 2 best batsmen out of a team, it would happen to any team in world cricket too

Smith will be an automatic lock when he's right to play again, Warner? I don't know, from a performance perspective we need him badly but the more we learn the worse it sounds for him.

It's much worse because Australia are at home. If it was an away series that excuse would carry more weight.

India at home without Kohli & Pujara would still be favourites to beat anyone imo.

Normally Australia would get hundreds from plodders like Plumscomb on home wickets like a couple of years ago.

But atm the duds aren't even scoring at home; let alone away.

Imagine if you didn't have Smith for the away Ashes in 7 months. You'd deadset struggle to reach 100 every innings.

This time last year the England selectors were picking Mason Crane for his debut
Oh I get it. We have donkey cricketers and mong selection moments, too.

See the over persistence with Jennings and Vince as proof.

But my point is still accurate.

This isn't a dick measuring contest; in this case determining who has the smallest dick lol

It really seems that's the plan. They talk of re-integrating Smith and Warner. No talk of re-integrating Bancroft.

Yeah- and as staunch as I am on Warner, I get that. He is a great bat and there's literally not 1 established opener as an alternative right now, let alone 2. The only argument against him is his overall affect on the team. He's is to you what Jesse Ryder was to NZ a few years ago. (Obviously, he has a better record than Ryder)

Great batsmen don't average 38 away from home.

Steve Smith averages 50 away from home. Kohli averages 47.

Those are great batsmen.

Warner is just a flat track bully; but a devastating one.

But away from home in tough conditions I'd take a Chris Rogers over him any day.

We'd take someone who could average 38 at home atm

Happy new year all

Weather forecast reasonably warm. 28-29c first couple of days, Saturday the hottest at 33c

Rohit Sharma out due to the birth of his child

This deck might be the best for batting in the series, with consistent bounce and carry (none that will skyrocket or keep low), so we may be able to get a decent score IF we bat first

India only need to draw. So they may be defensive with the bat? which may play in our hands where we can attack more aggressively and (closes ones eyes) take all our chances.

No confidence we will win this test , but bring it on and see if we can pull one of our ass

Yeah ok when I said great there I wasn't meaning 'Bradman/Tendulkar/Lara/Ponting/Smith'- I was meaning 'better than good'.

Anyone see Steve Waugh's team on Instagram haha. I wish our high profile ex-players had the balls to be like katich and just say Finch and Marsh have to go. We could have at least made Melbourne a draw if we picked some in form players ffs.

Lol, 1 tonne Tim Paine at 5.

Given he's said "from the selected squad" I can at least see what he's trying to do. He knows that they won't be picking Burns or anyone...

Paine shows grit, and easily has one of the better defences in the side. Batting him at 5 might make a difference
