Ummmmm how about a novel idea and picking the best 4 bowlers????

It’s a world side Woakes batting shouldn’t even come into it.

Because I disagree with that philosophy.

I much prefer the current England, Safrican and oft Indian approach of having an allrounder at 8.

2-3 does look better, but when the 7th Aussie wicket fell, I don't think too many Aussies were laughing at how England were 5/8.

Seriously, how good is Woakes with the bat? He'd be who I want at 8 in a current odi World XI with Shakib up higher. May fit Stokes in, may not.

I doubt you've got the courage to answer as you've ducked it for a day, but i'll give you another chance.
You were definite that I had made tennis jokes, can you let me know what they were?

it’s a world side, why would a pie
thrower like Woakes get a run because he is a handy bat???

Let me think you’d have Satner as you spinner because he can bat a bit as well????

Courage? I thought JJ clarified this. I mistook you for another poster on here.

Actually, NZC fans are more upset with Santner's failings as a bat. So your example is not that good.

A world side, like any side, is picked on a philosophy. You seem to assume 4 best bowlers is the way to go. Why not 5 best? Or 6 best? Because you have in your mind already a certain philosophy that dictates selection.

So do I.

And I want more runs at 8 with the bat than you do and I will sacrifice some bowling quality to get it.

As I said Mr selector good for you.

But the fact is his bowling is not even close to good enough to crack a world side.

But the fact is his bowling is not even close to good enough to crack a world side.

He's been bowling 5.3's in the Morgan era of big scoring games doing a lot of death and powerplay bowling. That with his runs off the bat is good enough for me. Its not like he has to take the new ball in a world XI as 4th bowler, nor is there that much in the white Kookaburra for all that long the last 2 years.

You have a differing view. I don't mind.

But Woakes' performances and abilities have gone a long way to improving the England team, and they sorely missed him at the Champions Trophy. He may not impress you much, but I doubt by all the press he getting in England right now that they're all disappointed in him.

There don't seem to be many calls for the re-selection of Anderson and Broad over there. Bar Broad himself.

Yep selecting a world XI is serious business.

You probably made a spreadsheet and ran all the numbers though your speshal system you made up for ODI cricket.

Where I just see Woakes bowl and know he is just good enough for that level.

England will blister through the World Cup and fail at the semi stage.

They don't have the bottle Australia and India have.

Well, no offence intended Hiney, but if given the choice of a sabermetric player analysis or your bare opinion, I'm going with the sabermetrics.

But maybe you could tell all those analysts working in cricket now that they're not needed, and for fans working on analysis to cease, as you could just watch some games and tell 'em all they need to know.
