ABC net article - I hate Rugby League

Guys…

Some of you don’t like what I wrote at the ABC site a few weeks back. Fair enough – it was pretty harsh on the sport you love.

However, there are a few things that you should bear in mind before you start imploring each other to come after me and kick me in the nuts….

One of you raised the point that I’d hit on every anti-RL cliché in the book – that should probably have tipped you off that maybe – just maybe – you’re not really supposed to take the article as seriously as most of you have.

That, combined with the tone of the piece – ‘outrageous’ I believe someone has called it – should have been enough for you to realise that I was taking the piss.

So you can stop getting your knickers in a bunch. It’s just words, people. Simmer down and stop taking yourselves and your beloved sport so damned seriously.

No... I also signed up to engage with you guys and find out the real reasons why you hated the article so much.

so... now that I've given you a small insight into the 'why' it was written, perhaps we can discuss this like rational people, and not raving lunatics with foam-flecked lips, calling for my head on a stick because I dared to criticise your beloved game...

I for one, Mr Grogan Stomachache....take the game I love seriously.

I'm really glad you do - everyone should have something in their life that they're passionate about. many people go their whole lives without finding that special something that truly makes them happy.

and if watching a sport makes you that happy, then more power to you.

seriously - it's excellent that something so simple makes you so happy.

What do you expect from a guy who dislikes both Rugby League and Golf?

I bet he is the type of guy who refers to sex as "intercourse" and has his wife iron his underwear.

 I cant imagine anyone not liking Rugby League or Golf...I dont know anyone like that and I make it a point not to socialise with these so called "People".

Never been on an Internet forum before?

Forums are full of raving lunatics with foam-flecked lips and you have written an article which was published via a national media channel that was very critical of the game that we all love. Then you have joined our forum. Thats equivalent to walking down a main street in Harlem in a Clan outfit yelling out the "N" word and asking not to be bashed.

firstly nothing in your article was constructive ... if you wish to get rational answers then write a constructive article ... write a poorly done piss take that makes you seem like a woman scorned on her rags then expect abuse ... there's a start ...

I think Bruce Willis did that in Die Hard with a Vengence, but he was wearing a sandwhich board with said expletive.

yeah, cheers ;-)

I'm not expecting this to be easy, nor am I expecting that anyone here would agree with me - but I am interested in discussing the issue with people who want to...

Not too sure people would be willing to not get stuck into you seeing though this article was written during the pinnacle of the Rugby League calendar...State of Origin.

Ok hands up, who actually tracked him down and kicked him the nuts. He's obviously tiring of it.

Gregor, I applaud you for your courage but coming here expecting to have a rational conversation about your article is an exercise in futility. Better for you to realise that you have p!ssed us all off, make up some small apology that you obviously don't mean and then back out of here with reputation still intact. Have you read some of the stuff that has been written about your article in this thread? In some respects, a lot of what has been written here validates your opinion of League and its fans. However, you have obviously missed the mark with the way you intended for your article to be taken so best we just leave it at that.

There is a movie made in the 70's called the "Kentucky Fried Movie". A guy did it there as he was supposedly a "stunt man". He was dressed in a white jump suit covered in sparkles and he had a crash helmet on. Walked up to a bunch of African American guys with big arse Afro's standing around a 40 gallon drum fire and yelled out the "N" bomb. Then he ran. Funny stuff!

hehe... I think the line to kick me in the balls is appallingly long - if you can stand the four hour wait, I'm sure it'll be worth it, though.

I should actually say something here about the article - something that I, reading it back, don't really like about it.

I attacked your sport. which I think is fair game.

But I was also pretty hard on the fans of the game - and that was a pretty low blow. I believe the footy parlance is 'playing the man and not the ball' - a crime for which I think maybe I deserve a bit of a hard time.

so - sorry if I was harsh on the fans.

what i found funny about this dumbass was this;

The nature of the comedic aspect of burly blokes dressing up as sheilas is, actually, pretty demeaning to women. And I know a lot of broads who take exception to that kind of sexist punishment in the media.

he calls it sexist, then states that he knows alot of women, calling them broads.

haha!

hey gregory, your gonzo journalism doesnt have style or accuracy, so f**k off back to where you came from.
