seems a pretty strange match to blood a rookie halfback with 2 specialist halfbacks fully fit?

Quinlan I think would be like Alfie at 7. If this is true this weekend, I'm expecting he will get belted by the big Rabbits but if thisd sticks, man, Dragons would be looking very good in their 'spine' for the next few years. Would love to see Quinlan in 7 tomorrow night.
Maybe more like a Terry Lamb? But I still see Quinlan as 2yrs away from mastering the position.. lets hope he can provide enough support play short-term to hold his position while he develops those skills.

Adam will never be a Widdop though.. I dont ever think he will be the man to lead a team.. in some ways its like Sutton for Souths, Reynolds runs the show, Sutton enhances it.

We have a playmaker in Widdop who will lead the team around,so you can even have Dan Hunt in the 7 jumper. This is different to the Chase Stanley experiment as Quinlan is a good smart player who will give us more than Stanley gave us.
I don't think we lose anything by having Adam in the 7 jumper.

you just cant throw someone into the halves in first grade without giving them an opportunity to learn the craft...
talk about setting the guy up to fail...

you also basically limit your attacking options to the side of the ruck Widdop is standing.. talk about making it easy for the defence...

if the long term strategy is to make Quinlan into a halfback then get him back to the cutters to play half for the entire season...

Witt must be injured, Stanley is not ready or proven, Williams ? Now Quinlan untried as a halfback.

If Quinlan is in the halves, then it is likely that Stanley will be on the bench and if that is the case, both Quinlan and Stanley will share halfback.

I sure hope that Quinlan has worked on a kicking game because Widdop will end up being a sitting duck. It's Dugan's first game back, so I hope Price does not give him kicking duties as he was not all that hot last year in that area.

I really hope Price puts 4 forwards on the bench this week mainly because Souths have a big strong pack and our guys need all the help they can get.

I'll admit it does seem a little fast but he played there all through juniors and had a stint last year. You may doubt the coaching staff but they are not blind stupid and he will be prepared. Not paying attention to quinlan would be a huge mistake from an opposition.

This comment pertaining to most coaches in the NRL would be true (that its a strange match to blood a rookie), but with our GEM of a coach hardly suprising and one would have to say situation normal.

Quinlan played in the halves at the back end of last season so why are people suggesting he has been thrown in for the first time. He handled it quite well so it is a great move to put him there. He will be fine. How will he get better at the role if he does not play there.

He didn't handle it well. He played well in the first game then slowly fizzed out. He was a passenger at the end. Shovelled the ball on, did nothing in attack, no kicking game. Backed up well. Having Widdop instead of Fien will certainly help and his confidence will have improved. There are some positives on last year. He's a good player. But halfback? Really?

He was very quite at 6 most games last year. Did not seem to have a kicking game or even a creative passing game. His main attributes are his backing up, his zip in attack and his clever side-stepping.

In my opinion he should earn his selection for halfack through the Cutters.

Well, we've all been pleasantly surprised so far this year have we not?

Lets hope for another little gift.

If he is selected because Witt is injured, then what does it say about Williams??

Adam's form has been good enough to keep him in the 17, but its a big call to play at 7. He may be the organising half that compliments Widdop well, we may not have seen it though. I would discount anything we saw last year, as we were terrible. In defence, all we can ask is that he puts his body on the line.

Maybe its a stroke of genius from Price.

Im looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
