Adam Quinlan

We must be the only team with such depth in the halves.

Widdop, Witt, Williams, Stanley, Quinlan all of whom are better options than Fein and Hornby were at the end of their careers.

Widdop is the best five eight we have seen for a very long time.

Williams has a good kicking game but makes too many mistakes to be a first grade half, hence the reason Canberra didn't try to retain him. He is an average first grade half back for any team ranked from 12-16 in the comp.

Witt is more composed than Williams, solid defender, goal kicker and kicker in general play. Good link man who will not stand out in a team.

Stanley has the football brain Williams needs but is injury prone and slower than he previously was. Can kick goals and good kicker in general play.He is a ball player with organisational skills. Has an excellent set of hands and can offload. If he were durable he would make a good lock. Lacks the speed off the mark to play in the halves now. Feel sorry for him, but teams can't be selected on sentiment. If he were fit, confident and was able to improve his acceleration off the mark, he would win the battle for the No 7 jersey.

Adam Quinlan is durable, has a football brain, reads the situation in attack very well.

Average defender. Super support play. My only reservation is whether he has the organisational skills to do the job.

Time will tell.

Quinlan is our halfback going forward not williams. It's probably why we signed Williams for a year only.
Its more the Doust/rice school of recruiting, they get a handful of cheapish talent and see if any cream comes to the surface.. Williams was a punt and could still come good, but so could Kyle.. so could Quinlan.. so could Witt for atleast 1-2 more years, options basically..

Quinlan however is something out of the box.. if they can manufacturer him into the #7 jersey we could be a genuine force.. Widdop+Quinlan+Dugan are our Biggest 3 X-Factors.

Dragons fans expectations are particularly high at the moment though.. he will be crucified if we lose.. hopefully thats not the case, were capable of so much more than we have been showing lately, so many near-misses.. we could put 50 on a team if we actually execute well.

Very excited by this development. Whether he kills it tomorrow or not I think the club need to invest in him as a half. In the cutters if necessary. He's sharp at fullback but with some obvious deficiencies such as kick returns. As pointed by many others if his kicking and directing are developed I think he could own the spot.
In regards to keeping him as a backup for the Duges I think we'd be wasting his ppotential. If Mata'utia keeps up the good work he could make a decent replacement for emergencies

In the wash out of all of this, I still think Williams has potential, he just needs to relax and play consistent and cut out going for the brainsnap highlights reel plays on chip kicks. I'm excited for Quinlan as many have speculated for him a move to the halves and now we shall see, I hope he goes well.

There is always someone else worse off than us though.....imagine having Daniel Holdsworth named at halfback for your 1st grade team :sarcasm:

I agree, this will only put pressure on Widdop as i dont think Quinlan is a 7,weakening a position so he can fit Quinlan in is not the go in my opinion.

Always believed that a half needs to be a specialist, an organiser, good passer, good kicking game and solid defender. Always thought Williams would be the man as he has all the skills. But doesn't seem to have the required command to lead a team around the paddock and he has an error on two in him that doesn't help.

I'm intrigued to see how Quinlan goes at half. Dugan, Widdop and Quinlan in the backline is very exciting. We've all seen how Albert Kelly has gone at the Titans.

What's his role going to be?
Feed the occasional scrum, support the ball carrier, stand on the wing in defence.
I'm not sold on this at this stage of the season, there could be a big shift in our momentum if it doesn't come off.If price thinks he is the future 1/2 then so be but he should be in the cutters learning the trade not in first grade against a huge side like souths.I wasn't that impressed with him last year at 5/8 hell even price himself said he has no talking in his game which is a must in this position. To me he has looked a bit gun shy lately as well.
Just a hypothetical what if Widdop goes down What's plan b?
We also now have the situation of having to fit two of prices projects into the 17 with him & Stanley !

First positive move I think ive ever seen from Price, aside from Adam playing #6 at the end of last year.

As a playmaker the kid goes ok, but hes a guy who runs onto the ball and uses his speed to create opportunities, not to throw a long cutout ball etc.. and hes definitely got some offensive errors in him.

This all needs to be balanced VS Adam's ability to run onto offloads and score tries that way, hes unconventional and if our gameplan is smart and we utilise his skills.. we will be a very non-traditional attack and imo freaking hard to stop.. I just hope we can get it right quickly since we have Souths, Melbourne etc to come.

I think recent rumours of him getting snapped up is making them find a spot for him as they no doubt want to keep him

He is signed for next season so I don't think so. I think Price sees him potentially as a damaging No.7 which I have for some time, we won't really know unless he gets a few games. There are opinions he should do that in the cutters which are valid but then do you play Williams at 6 in the cutters when we are also trying to get him up to scratch at 7? Then we are talking about Stanley as a 6 or 7. At the moment we are in good health so it's hard to fit everyone in

This thread says it all. The people who are supporting this are only talking about is his support play and his running game. Because they are such important skills to have as a halfback

So far during his career we haven't seen a passing game, kicking game or any organisational skills, so why would anyone think halfback is his best position?

One thing is for sure, either the Price Slicers will be having a field day from about 9.30 pm tonight, or they will be holding their fire for another week whilst his supporters sing his praises.
If this thing happens and it backfires this place will be like an 8.6 on the richter scale.
He has to live or die by his decisions and I'm happy for him to be making the calls if this is how he feels it has to be. I don't pretend to be savvy enough to know the ins and outs of the team dynamics that lead to this decision.
I continue to have concerns about Style on the bench, but so far we've managed on 3 out of four occasions.
Big Kahunas by Pricey if nothing else going down this path.
