Quinlan played in the halves at the back end of last season so why are people suggesting he has been thrown in for the first time. He handled it quite well so it is a great move to put him there. He will be fine. How will he get better at the role if he does not play there.

Yep you are right about last year so technically not a rookie ,but didnt look the goods last year ,i wouldve thought letting him find his feet in cutters at 7 again after getting his head around fullback would be better but obviously Price is going for a "trick shot " against Souths, surely he couldve perservered with williams another week or two to let him settle in a bit,i think quinlan is a handy player but not a halfie at this stage ,HOPE HE PROVES ME WRONG TOMMORROW.

Quinlan as a bench player offers extraordinary utility value because of his pace and particularly his excellent reading of the game from many perspectives.
His agility off the mark would IMO, prove devastating late in the halves when the big boppers are running on tired legs
Kyle doesn't have his pace or quickness of play but is a better defender.

Wouldn't it be a shock if Quinlan plays well at halfback, contributes to a convincing win for our Dragons, and everybody realizing that maybe, just maybe, Pricey is smarter than all the coaches in this place.

Fmd....the guy was blasted last year for not trying rookie halfback, and this year blasted for doing it.

Quinlan I think would be like Alfie at 7. If this is true this weekend, I'm expecting he will get belted by the big Rabbits but if thisd sticks, man, Dragons would be looking very good in their 'spine' for the next few years. Would love to see Quinlan in 7 tomorrow night.

It's been reported in the late mail on NRL.com so unless Price gets cold feet it will happen. I suspect Witt isnt 100% and even though I think Williams has some runs on the board we need to find out now who should be playing 7 and I think we only have 3 options and of which we haven't tried Quinlan yet. Healthy postion to be in

I do have to scoff at the few that say Quinlan wasn't that good at No.6 last year when he was one of our best. Look at the strike power Widdop has at his finger tips this week with Quinlan, Dugan, Morris and Gypsy and also Beale and Farrell coming to life. What we need is an even money performance from the forwards and we will do ok. I expect Souths forwards to come out rampaging this week so it should be no surprise and we have to man up! Souffs will be stronger with Sutton at 5/8 and Walker in the centres

I'm really excited for the Mighty Quinn and hope he does well as I know the knifes will be out if he doesnt.

If Stockwell is in and Hunt is out I have my team selection so that's pretty scary but even last week I dont think we played poorly as individuals we just played poorly as a team so barring injury I wouldnt have changed anything except had a whisper in a few players ears

And if Thompson is starting, it has to be on the right side in place of Ah Mau. A right side defence line of Farrell, Thompson, Quinlan and Nightie seems decent enough to me. And on the left....Widdop, Creagh, Beale and Morris, not to shabby at all.

I have been in the Sahara all week, so thought he was on the bench, which I thought would be brilliant. But starting 7 is exciting, so long as our "bigs" can look after him defensively. Great opportunity for him & as has been pointed out, the attacking weapons around him are like missiles just lining up. Let's hope there is cohesion

Well done Price. F.... that hurt

Quilan and Widdop in the halves is an exciting prospect, win, lose or draw. Been waiting for a while to see these types of selections from Price, giving the young guns a shot and selected with a bit of guts too and not safety first.....

he looked lost to me.. i dont believe he handled it well.

i agree he needs experience playing the role - but first grade is not a training ground for someone to run around with their "L" plates at the teams expense..

there is a BIG difference to someone who is a lower grade halfback but a rookie to first grade, and a rookie halfback..

Quinlan is our halfback going forward not williams. It's probably why we signed Williams for a year only.

Well Witt is getting old and there is no way you could keep picking Williams on the performances he has been putting in. Been terrible this year. Maybe trying too hard??

This is a big test for a kid I rate highly, but am unsure as to his skills for a 7.
Kicking, organising, knowing when to take on the line, etc etc etc.
We know he is sharp of the mark, great support skills and a ball of energy, but I hope
there are not huge deficiencies in other areas required for a full time 7.
Good luck young man..

The Illawarra Mecury reports Quinlan is set to play 7 against Souffs. Dan Hunt has been quoted saying he has been named to play half.

Here's a link to the Pricey interview;

For anyone who can't be bothered listening to the whole thing, he said RE: Quinlan "he trained there during the captains run today and... we'll see"

Oh well, it seems like a huge call but if he's in, he's in. Best of luck to him. Hope Quinlan tears it up. Run straight and takes the line on. I'm confident he'll go ok with the other guys around him. Switching Thompson for Ah Mau would be a good idea for this game. He could use some support in defence.
