This from FB (NRL Fantasy weapons) obviously the accuracy is unknown

To everybody posting, reposting and sharing posts about recent news regarding Alex McKinnon.

MMM did a extensive interview and update regarding this.

Alex McKinnon has NOT been told he will be a quadriplegic!

He has been told that at this stage the diagnosis is quadriplegia.

At this stage his spine has been stabilised. His spinal cord is significantly damaged BUT was not severed.

The next step is flying him to the spinal unit in Sydney where they will begin looking at his spinal cord and how they can treat it.

The damage to his spinal cord at present is resulting in quadriplegia - but this is not to say that this is permanent. It may well be - but the Doctors are certainly not there at this point. They haven't even begun!

It was also made clear that the Doctors in these cases only talk to patients and family IN THE PRESENT - as the issues are serious and they can make no promises or guarantees - they don't get ahead of themselves and try to not let patients get ahead of themselves one way or the other. They are staying in the now.

I don't see that sensationalised social media can help Alex or his family and friends - especially when it's going in a completely different direction to what the Doctors and Specialists are themselves taking with Alex and his family!

They should donate every cent they make from this weekends fixtures to get him the state of the art treatment. Terrible news for the whole game. I'm not going to comment on McLean.

If I was a moderator I would have pulled the ban hammer out for some of the stuff being said in this thread.

So apparently he has an interim diagnosis of quadriplegia as it is in line with his current symptoms. However he has not been diagnosed with quadriplegia if that makes sense.

A full diagnosis with this sort of thing can be months or years. As there is still swelling around his chord his symptoms are obviously going to be magnified for now. Once it all settles down and the healing process is allowed to begin we will have a better idea.

In my mind all I can think is that he will walk again and live a fully functional life.

Thats fair enough. The logistics I suppose of setting up our own donations website would probably be very murky. I've emailed my club instead with the hopes that they'll have a better idea of how to get something started. I suggest other fans do the same.

Hell even if all 8 games this coming weekend simply have buckets taking donations in Mckinnon's name (I believe the Men of League already take donations during heritage round so they could simply have a targeted campaign) there would be plenty raised.

For all we know Mckinnon may not need financial support as the Knights and/or NRL may come to the party (or he may have insurance, who knows) but at the very least money raised could be put towards helping other sufferers of similar injuries who are having financial difficulty.

It's only murky if there is no direct link with the family or club. Crowd funding is quite wide spread now. Perhaps we are getting ahead of ourselves though, it's best to see where Alex ends up oer the next few weeks

Being quadriplegic does not necessarily mean zero movement of every limb. Sometimes quadriplegics have some use of their arms, that's how you see some of them able to get around in those motorised wheelchairs.

Mckinnon did have partial movement in his right arm but you could see he was trying to get his mouthguard out but unable to get his hand to his mouth.

When you go out and play contact sport this is the absolute nightmare scenario people dread.

I hope this doesn't need to get close to a courtroom. I hope the NRL make sure he is taken care of for life. There would be no NRL if the players weren't putting themselves at risk of these kinds of things. The NRL simply must have the decency to spare nothing in taking care of Mckinnon.

Sad news for a young bloke. Hope it improves with time, wont be the first time that the docs have got it wrong.

But this thread has shown that dragon supporters are the scummiest merkins around. Pull your f**king heads you pricks.

f**k off.
Most people commenting on the issue and not exactly of the viewpoint that McLean was blameless stuck to commenting on the issue at hand and not taking pot shots at the view points of others.
It flared up when people started to take pot shots at people for having the point of view that McLean was not entirely blameless - and may I point out it was people of the viewpoint that he was blameless - that started the shit slinging matches.

Who has said that McLean should be blameless

A few have intimated as much.
Outside of that some people just chimed in with insults contributing nothing to this thread.
I will also wager they'd be the type of people who wouldn't chime in for a donation either.

The fact is that you're a merkin and need to pull your shit for brains head in like alot of your pathetic dragons supporters that posted in this thread.

Tigers fans thought they knew sadness after what happened to Simon Dwyer, and that was tragic.

But he can at least still walk and use one of his arms to its maximum.

Poor Alex McKinnon. So much sorrow and sadness for the kid. I'm not even a Knights fan, but this is just so f**king wrong. I want to be angry for him, but there's nowhere to direct the anger.

I can only imagine how much worse it is for Knights fans and for McKinnon and his family.
