Anyone still want to sack Flanno?

I think I've got it now...
So... we got 2 points for the Dragons winning against themselves .
and
20 + 40 = 80?
but
The Cowboys 4 points equal 8 points in reality.
and
The Sharks 4 points in reality equal 2 points on account of the Dragons big win over themselves?

I liked the old days when 20 + 40 = 60
...and 4 = 4.

Yes that's how it works in armchair coach world

You are comparing a Cowboys team who are unchanged from winning last years Grand Final.

to a ........

Sharks side who have started the year with a new halves combination.

That's a fair comparison?

Oh because before we had the new halves we were a very consistent team who put in every week. Yeah right.

That's true. We for some reason over the past few years have been able to get up against the teams when we weren't expected to, and the teams we are expected to beat we seem to lie down for. It's frustrating.
Believe you me champ, that's been happening since 1967.

Without wanting to start on a sour note, the Cows had three hard games in the UK and hit the ground running with a well tested and seasoned side. We on the other hand, had new combinations all over the paddock and our first team only had a handfull of minutes together in a couple of trials.

Cream always rises to the top and all that's left is skim milk. Go Carch.

So far our 4 games have been against:

Premiers away - not an easy game, 39-0 ring a bell.
Dragons at home - local derby, form and squads go out the window
Manly away - our biggest hoodoo and a terribly hard ground to win at
Melbourne at home - the most dominant team for a decade

To come away with 4 points, a positive for and against, a good showing in Townsville and all the while letting a fullback find his feet, a 5/8 and half back gel and a hooker handing over the keys to the team.

Im satisfied.

Who is a realistic target to replace Flanno? That is decent?

Cleary? Has had access to 2 of the biggest junior bases on offer and done nothing with them. Got to a GF and got over hyped.

Toovey? Maybe, but he was given a brilliant Manly team and watched the age and not replace them. He also couldnt control their ego's.

Daley? We went for him as a coaching director during 2014 but he himself said he is not ready for a fulltime gig.

Walker Brothers? Play a shocking brand of footy that would get us hammered week in week out.

Better the devil you know.

People hate Flanno for his mistake he made in 2011. I'd hate to marry someone like that. What a grudge.
You couldnt hate hime for results.
When he started building the team he got us to finals.
He came back from a suspension and picked up the pieces to get us to the finals with the worst half back in the comp and a 5/8 who isn't a 5/8.
He got us 5th with no kicking game.

But he will never win us a comp!
Neither did Gibson, Beetson, Lang, Stuart ect.

There is no one available immediately who could come in and do a better job.

When the results go pear shaped then look to move him on.

Lets take ASADA out of it, and then you look at Flanno he came into the job towards end of 2010.

2011 we failed to make finals
2012-13 & 2015 we make finals
2014 Flanno was suspended we didnt make finals

So 3 out of 4 season we make the finals not a bad effort.

Throughout his time 2013 Sharks win NSW Cup
2015 we win both Ball & Matthews

All this time Flanno is head coach, so he is putting the right people around him to be a success, as a Sharks coach he has made finals 3 times, only John Lang as coach has made finals more.

The recruitment at club as improved every year Flanno has been here.
Now add to that we have for once upper management which know what they are doing, Flanno can just be a coach not worry about outside issues including purchasing equipment.

I have not been a Flanno supporter but overall his onfield record is better then a lot of options out there, and our future on the field is looking healthy and he can take a significant pat on the back for that

Flanno has made the odd mistake, i think though what annoys me most is the grind, if we win the comp with the grind great, but its a style that dosent normally lend yourself to have big wins, the style is taxing on the players and it seems to show come finals, and when you think about its taxing on the fans every game is exhausting come finals we are taxed as much as the players.

But win the comp with the grind i will be happy, i just get frustrated the way we play

Every team grinds, if you do it well it fatigues the other side and them the opportunities open up.

Throwing the ball side to side without the hard work does nothing.

I couldn't give a shit if we won every game by one point, a win is a win.

You make many points and for once I agree with most. But bagging Ipswich is off the mark. Shocking brand of footballl!

By trying out innovative methods they won both the Comps they played in. Just the sort of innovative stuff, Flanno never shows. Sweeping statement stuff the forum is expected to swallow.

For all Flanno's good points , we are closer to a shocking brand of football than Ipswich. By shocking I assume you mean not good , not surprising. Ipswich were more interesting to watch than the Sharks. Their success resulted in them losing many players, so unlikely to repeat. Plus their style is now known.

Plus having a go at the halves is a laugh. It was Flanno who had the Robbo fixation. Plus he wouldn't play CT who is now the Messiah. Started with Wade at 6 when even Blind Freddy could see he was no good there. Then Flanno picked Bird there.

The whole peptide program was hardly a great bit of coaching either and I like others am bewildered it ended in him getting a contract extension.

Granted the alternatives to Flanno are no better. Let's see how he goes with 2 years with a decent roster though

Souths and Roosters won comps with largely unheralded coaches. So Flanno has a chance.

I also question Flanno's ability to keep Gallen in line.

As I said, I found myself largely in agreement with most of your post.

Those of you that keep reffering to these rookie coaches that have won comps ...please consider this.

2013- roosters -robinson
Mini
Jennings
RTS
Maloney
Warea Hargraves
SBW *

2014 - Souths -Michael Maguire
Alex Johnsom
Lote Tuquiri
Adam Reynolds
Sam Burgess
Greg Inglis *
Isaac Luke ( suspended for GF )

2015 - Cowboys - Paul Green
Michael Morgan
James Tamou
Ben Hannant
Mat Scott
J Taumalolo
Johnathon Thruston *

These coaches had a bit of help I'd say.
Some of those players are the best players in the game.
Each team had 1 player that is arguably the best player in the world at that position when they won it.

We have some good players but lets not kid ourselves that we were ever in the same ball park (in terms of rosters) as these teams when they won.

Good post.

So, the logic would be that Cowboys go back-to-back, as JT is really THE stand-out player in the comp!
