ANZ Stadium - Scheduling clash Round 25

Not a chance in hell that they'll get 60k to the Swans game. They'll be lucky to crack 40K. They got 57k to their home final last year, and 47k to their regular season match versus Collingwood.

What reason do you have for thinking that this match would draw the biggest AFL crowd at ANZ in 7 years? The Swans steadily dropping home averages? The fact they'd be playing a team that draws much less than Collingwood (the opposition for all regular season crowds over 50k at ANZ)??

Semantics.

Less whatever compensation that ANZ will have to pay to the dogs, NRL, and Channel 9 for moving/rescheduling the game, of course.

the NRL should dig their heels in, and dig them in hard. ANZ survives because of the NRL and no one else. They get 1-2 union games and 1-2 AFL games of note per year. They get dozens of NRL games plus origin and finals.

We make them more money annually, and if we have any balls will tell them to f**k off on this matter

Where does that statement mention the contracts exactly ?
The NRL wouldn't move without complaint if it didn't have to. The fact that it does have to means you can only come to one logical solution: it is contracted to follow the directions of ANZ stadium.

ANZ stadium doesn't have a competitor. Dogs and Souths are contracted for years and the stadium knows the NRLs long term plans include stadium rationalization.

And if it is an issue of contract there is nothing the NRL can do. And considering they've changed without any sort of protest I assume it is in black and white.

This shows how stupid the NRL is - selling tickets to a match without confirming that the venue was actually available.
Soon as NRL released Rnd 25 a few weeks back, the AFL came out and said that they had booked the venue, yet it took this long for the NRL to realise.
How do these things happen?
With the Swans likely to host a final in week 1 or 2 of the NRL finals, I bet the AFL have already booked ANZ for then as well.
Swans would rather play at SCG, but contracts are contracts (Swans deal with ANZ ends 2016).

where?

the AFL were forced to move their final last year IIRC as the NRL had it booked first

Build a new staduim within 5 years ANZ's broke. Buy it cheap and fix it so it's not all purpose. Win win for all

I'd happily see an NRL grand final hosted at Suncorp and Origin moved to the SFS for a couple years if it meant ANZ stadium fell into line.

I'd even be happy for the NRL to compensate souths to break their ANZ contract and play out of the SFS as well for that same period.

Better yet, the NRL should buy out ANZ's ownership of the stadium and kick the AFL out permanently with the view of redeveloping it into a proper rectangle stadium.

The game has been scheduled at ANZ all year, it's only the timeslot that has been decided last minute.

And the AFL had Saturday night or Sunday as options and they chose Friday night which was already taken.

RL wins.

Now stop infecting threads dipshit.

If that was viable it would be done by now. The NRL isn't about to spend hundreds of millions to build a stadium just because it had to follow an agreement it agreed to.

We only just have the money to look at it now. If the AFL game HAD to be on the Friday it's different. It's set for that weekend so can p!ss off

Here is what probably happened. The Sydney Swans play 3 games a year at ANZ Stadium. This year one game was a road game against GWS, one was against Collingwood, and the other (because it was a GF rematch) against Hawthorn. For some unknown reason, the AFL scheduled the match for the last round of the year. And for the final round, what the AFL does is schedule teams that will play in the finals series earlier in the round to give them rest heading into the finals. The only guaranteed matchup of finals teams is Hawthorn vs Sydney (if you discount the Essendon vs Richmond matchup because of the potential of Essendon getting stripped of points). It would be natural of the AFL to schedule on Friday Night. For some unknown reason, the someone in the AFL forgot to check to see if there are any conflicts at ANZ Stadium. And that is how we got to this point. (But really, 9, Penrith vs Bulldogs over Manly vs Melbourne. And you call yourself "the Home of Rugby League?")

Last year the AFL wanted a Saturday night final for the Swans because another team finished higher which earned them the right to have a longer break. But they couldn't, because we had the Souths v Doggies final booked in first. It was as simple as that. The fact that this is even being considered by the NRL suggests to me that either the contract in place isn't as clear-cut as the one from last year, or someone has stuffed up very badly. It doesn't matter who would have the bigger crowd, or who would generate the most money, the contract is all that matters. The ARLC wouldn't agree to lose this much face for any amount of money, so someone must have stuffed up when scheduling this match.

Perhaps the contract outlines different rules for finals and regular season games.
