Last year the AFL wanted a Saturday night final for the Swans because another team finished higher which earned them the right to have a longer break. But they couldn't, because we had the Souths v Doggies final booked in first. It was as simple as that. The fact that this is even being considered by the NRL suggests to me that either the contract in place isn't as clear-cut as the one from last year, or someone has stuffed up very badly. It doesn't matter who would have the bigger crowd, or who would generate the most money, the contract is all that matters. The ARLC wouldn't agree to lose this much face for any amount of money, so someone must have stuffed up when scheduling this match.

nope

looks like the corrupt AFL have been up to their crap again http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/br...s-nrl-game-at-anz-stadium-20130730-2qws7.html

I cannot believe the plans to revamp ANZ will keep it multi purpose.
It will always be too big a field for NRL and too small for AFL.
Multi purpose venues do not work and scheduling difficulties is one of the many reasons.

And the AFL had Saturday night or Sunday as options and they chose Friday night which was already taken.

No they didn't. The match had to be EITHER Friday or Saturday afternoon. Hawthorn will be the minor premiers- they deserve the longest break between their last match and their first qualifying final. Always the way it has been with AFL- they like a minimum of 7 day rest for the minor premiers.

It is unfortunate, but really why can't the NRL play the game on Thursday night, it isn't that big a deal. Both teams still get prime time.

And the NRL was supposed to give a shit about this when they scheduled FNF?

Pissweak leadership at Moore Park and Belmore to not stand their ground and tell the VFL and ANZ to get stuffed.

If it was our home game being bumped, we wouldn't have copped it.

And what happens if the Swans come first and have to play their final on the Friday night?

Will Souths/Easts (a minor prem play-off with at least 40k in attendance) be bumped too?

While I agree with the sentiment, a massive lol at the predicted crowd. 30k in good weather if we are lucky

Really? We got 33k the last time we played you in the last round in 2007 (the Fa'alogo punch match). And neither of us were playing for the Minor Prem back then.

I would love 40k but I think the past 2 months has dented my confidence in crowds somewhat

Roosters v Rabbits have attracted 35k before at ANZ Stadium.

If it's a battle for the minor premiership, the media will give the game a massive build up. 35k-40k is a real chance.

Weak as piss by the NRL and Bulldogs for caving in to the AFL.

I just realised neither Manly or Melbourne played MNF the week before. Why the f**k weren't they on Friday night all along.
I know you've traditionally not been the sharpest tool in the shed but surely you aren't THIS stupid.

Canterbury (western Sydney club) v Penrith (western Sydney club) both attempting to keep/gain spot in the eight...

or

Manly (northern beaches, not a totally RL area) v Melbourne (in another state, not an RL area), both guaranteed a spot in the eight.

The ratings will speak for themselves. And Manly v Melbourne will still be a boon for FOX anyway, they won't give it up.

Even the bulldogs deserve priority over the AFL.
Tell the AFL to piss off and play the game in Victoria somewhere, problem solved.

I would expect that game to go close to breaking the ANZ stadium regular season record if it winds up a battle for the minor premiership.

If the NRL dare try to suggest that game be moved I hope Souths tell them to go and get royally f**ked

If its no big deal then let the f**king AFL move their game to Thursday

Its actually ANZ who would be pushing to have the dogs relocate their game. They are the only ones who stand to benefit from keeping it, and also the most likely to receive complaints if the AFL game is moved given it is advertised as part of their membership package.

This is why moving more teams to ANZ will not work. These sorts of clashes will happen more and more, and the surface - which is already shithouse to begin with - will be completely destroyed if upwards of 6 games are played there every weekend
Exactly. 2 NRL clubs have home tenancy there, and they also had Saints and Wests. Parra give them 2 games a season. Yet League gets rogered because AR football decide rather brainlessly to muscle in. I recall the Dogs getting a semi final moved some years ago because of this sh*t minnow of a sport.

The first thing that needs to happen if Greenberg has any hope of his plan is to stand up to ANZ and make sure the NRL is looked after. It is f*cking ridiculous that a stadium can be double booked, and your best tennant shafted. Ho many times has first grade Rugby League been punted from Kograh, Parramatta, Hunter, Brookie or Suncorp because some gimp at ANZ cant take a booking properly????????

ANZ will benefit more financially from the Swans game.

The Bulldogs/Panthers game will attract no way near as many people. It will be moved.
Stiff sh*t. Why cant that other sport play at f*cking Skoda????????

The 2 biggest drawing Sydney games of the year were Souths v Bulldogs (52k), Roosters v Dragons (42k).

You would assume all the fans would show up again take away some for the night it's on. Add bandwagoners 40k should be minimum.

Lets hope Richardson's balls are as big his guts & tells them to p!ss off.
