f**k me when we signed the long term deal with ANZ for the GF why didn't we stipulate that any clash of codes falls in the NRL s favour????

There is no way they would of blinked. With the GF the SOO and multiple club games at ANZ the nrl has the whip hand

Another case of shit management

The recent deal? I'm not sure.

The original one was in favor of the AFL because Ken Edwards could see the potential $$ he could make off the AFL.

A friend lives in Gladesville, works at OP....starts at 6am, to get there on time he leaves at 4am, Bus to central, train to Lidcombe, train to OP

5.86 km
2 hours
three forms of transport

He needs to buy a bike. That's crazy. It'd take him 20 minutes to ride.

when some of you say you have to catch 2 trains to get to olympic park, are you talking about how you have to change trains at lidcombe? i've been to olympic park heaps of times and the longest i have ever had to wait for a train at lidcombe to get to olympic park was 10 minutes. i travel from the campbelltown area and anz stadium is very easy to get to. easier and quicker than the sfs

The main problem as I see it on the teev is even if the crowd is around 30k, the place still looks empty.

Dunno...maybe 30-40 mins....probably 10 - 15 min wait for the train, then waiting again for the 2nd train

This is early early morning, not game time

They aren't going to be running a lot of buses or trains at 4 in the morning are they?

Like another poster said tell him to get a bike.

All they have to do is point to the crowd the last time the Swans played a final there, the lowest finals crowd since 1921 or something ridiculous like that.
Look I expect there to be a level of silly code hateing on here. But making up stats isn't fun.

The last time the Swans played a final at ANZ, it wasn't even the lowest finals crowd of that season, let alone of 90 bloody years.

Every code has plenty of actual real embarassing stats come up without having to make any up. For example the crowd 7k or whatever it was GWS got to the Collingwood game last week at Skoda was the smallest crowd for any Collingwood game since 1953.

So does the MCG. Doesn't mean the AFL feels the need to have a sook and play the games in smaller stadiums and lock people out.

Sure selling out some 20k rustbucket in the suburbs might make people feel like they have a big dick, it still makes less money than 25k at ANZ and locks out fans who want to be there.

Jesus Christ you're dim. Think about it. 20k in a suburban ground is better for those that are there and looks so much better for TV audiences. It gives the appearance of a thriving code. 30k at this huge ground is 50k empty seats and in any case is a historical rarity. Unless and until the NRL gets a proper attendance culture it's madness to keep sending games to empty stadia.

The bolded part above is why you're reviled around here.

.

I will concede this: i got the year wrong. The Swans final played in 2010 at ANZ stadium was not the lowest finals crowd since 1921, it was since 1934. Easily verifiable (id link an article in but i can't find one, and im certainly not linking Big Foody here)

So yeah, a bit off in my original estimate, but certainly not made up.

Bunniesman, the finals crowd in 2010 was around the 19,000 mark and was the lowest crowd in an AFL finals match since 1934.

That's a fact and again, you are wrong.

Only a f**ken moron would be more impressed by 20k at Campbelltown than 30k at ANZ. Someone with a complete inability to think logically and see the big picture. We shouldn't be trying to impress people as stupid as that because natural selection will sort them out.

Sigh. Look guys, I don't enjoy making people look stupid. I tried to correct you quietly without embarrassing anyone but you two decide to dig deeper.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_AFL_season#Finals_series

The last time the Swans played a final at ANZ was in week 1 of the finals in 2010. The crowd was 41,596. A crowd in week 2 of that year was lower.

People shouldn't act like they're 100% sure when they're obviously not. And if you were 100% confident in your memory of the fact, you should see a doctor because being that confident and that badly wrong at the same time might be a concern.

And about ANZ in the finals this year, Swans fans wouldn't normally even want to play at ANZ, the problem is half the SCG is knocked down.

Not to mention the overzealous security guards on the gates that make going through customs out at Mascot look like an absolute breeze.

Given the shit they'd have to put up with virtually every week from an element of feral Dogs and Rabbits fans i think the over zealousness is somewhat understandable.......

As for the stadium itself it's an absolute soulless shithole. On average i get to 3-4 regular season Storm games in Sydney each year and we instantly draw a line through any games there. Finals we have no choice obviously but you can look past the general crapness of the stadium then because it's the business end of the season.

Even when there is 80,000 people there for a GF or SOO, it's a sh!t place to watch league. Most of the seats are in a terrible viewing location though granted the atmosphere is good (though I'd take the atmosphere at a suburban ground like Brookie or Oki Choki over ANZ any day).

Most suburban grounds never draw 20k crowds. If it rains you can half that number. If clubs are happy with 15-16k crowds their choice, can see those clubs getting left behind though.

Agree ANZ is not our answer but hard to see how we achieve our answer which is a new 35k stadium in western Sydney.
