I like the Raygun comparison, who wouldn’t want to be compared to a humble Aussie champion like her?

So our next test is over 4 months away - 21 st November 1st ashes test in Perth

There is some annoying ODI (3) and T20 (5) late October to Nov 8 v India
and 3 T20s in NZ early Oct

But a bunch of Shield games during this time , so hopefully majority of our guys get a couple of Shield games in at least

Lyon will come in, from the lineup 3rd test v Windies. Not sure we make too many more changes tbh...

Metallica Concert Nov 15th get me pumped for the poms 😁🔥

Death of ODI cricket is just so sad. The short formats are never on my calendar anymore. WC brings some relevance to the 50 over format but still don't have any interest in t20 cricket at any level.

All eyes on top order bats going into shield. Brisbane is the D/N fixture so could use some thought from selectors. Maybe schedule a D/N shield match?

I think Khawaja/Labs will probably open the first two tests. Then it depends on the results.

Hero retirement at the SCG for Khawaja can't be guaranteed but its ideal. Its where it started for him. Best place for it to finish as well.

The question is Khawaja being judged on runs or the fact he soaks up the new ball.

His obviously been in massive decline from a runs point of view.

The latter based on how Labs/Smith have batted since the WTC test. I thought both were quite agressive and Smith seemed to continue that into the WI series at times.

I wanted Khawaja to be moved on but options really do suck right now.

Archer and Wood will eat Usman alive, we’re gonna have to go in with two new openers, which we should have done for Windies.

Renshaw has to be one.

I can still see Uzi scoring some runs at home. Will it be enough? I don't think we have two options because the selectors have done nothing for so long

Kony can't play, there's no way. Renshaw in for him, pray for another option. Otherwise I can't see anyone who could replace Uzi, unless they go back to trying to make a not-opener an opener with McSweeney or Inglis or someone

I don’t think he’s got the eyes or reactions anymore, unfortunately.

Jake Weatherald coming off a decent couple of seasons isn’t he?

Better option that merkinstas or Labs at least.

I was a Weatherald fan for the ODI side a few World Cups ago, but now he has gone bald

The openers from the last Shield games:

Nivethan Radhakrishnan
Jake WeatherBald
Blake Nikitaris
Sam Konstas
Campbell Kellaway
Marcus Harris
Cam Bancroft
Sam Whiteman
Usman Khawaja
Angus Lovell
Connor McInerney
Henry Hunt

Probs not the only openers through the year, but that's f**ken dire...

We should blindside the poms with Konstas, McGurk and Connolly as our top 3 in Perth...

We probably lose the first test anyway like last year, may as well give these youngsters a bite at em...

McGurk and Connolly will have us 0/680 at stumps on Day 1.

Out Bazball the Bazaballers.

Hopefuly Albo gets my memo to have this as the PM side to 'help' out the poms before the pink ball test...

David Warner
Jake Weatherald
McSweeney
Mitch Marsh
Glenn Maxwell
Marcus Stoinis
MWade (c)
Adam Zampa
Tanveer Sangha
Llyod Pope
Kuhnermann
12th man Marcus Harris

An England XI will face the Prime Minister's XI in a two-day pink-ball match in Canberra in late November ahead of the day-night Ashes Test at the Gabba.

The match at Manuka Oval will take place on November 29 and 30, starting four days after the opening Test in Perth and finishing three days before the pink-ball Test in Brisbane, which this season is the venue for the day-night encounter instead of the traditional Adelaide Oval.

It will provide England's players a chance to acclimatise to the pink ball in match conditions in what was traditionally a one-day fixture before becoming a multi-day game in 2022-23 when West Indies were the opposition.

Last season the game was reduced to a two-dayer against India but became a one-day contest due to rain. However, it still had a major bearing on the Test series with Sam Konstas flaying a century which played a significant part in him earning a call-up for the MCG.

The PM's XI match will be England's only fixture outside of the five Tests once the Ashes begins. They will prepare for the series with a three-day game against England Lions at Lilac Hill in Perth, although that is expected to consist more of centre-wicket practice scenarios rather than being a fully-fledged match. However, cricket.com.au reported that tickets for the opening day have already sold out.

Unlike the two matches England Lions will play - against a CA XI and Australia A - that run concurrently with the first two Ashes Tests, the PM's XI contest does not clash with the Sheffield Shield.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: "An Ashes series is something every cricket fan looks forward to. Like many Australians I grew up admiring, and begrudging, the brilliance of players like Ian Botham, David Gower, and Graham Gooch.

"I look forward to meeting with the selectors to finalise a PM's XI squad that showcases the best available talent from across Australia to take on the strong English team."

Do some of these twits (Steyn ) just not get it??

This is the same muppet that wanted Mulder to go past (a free) 400, despite SA having way too much runs already

Hypocrite much?

Shamo this onion has many layers to it, and each one will make someone cry. The only issue I see here is the one thing people aren’t realizing, the batters weren’t playing for 100s, they were batting for a DRAW. That was the goal. Draw the game. Once that was accomplished, and a result was out of the question a handshake was offered, that’s the gentlemanly thing to do right? It’s not then the time to realize they safe and now say no we’d prefer some free milestones… although within the rules, just seems a little, well, odd. That said, they did bat well, and maybe with the last hour approaching they should have been more aggressive in reaching those milestones, at least then, we could all agree, no team tried to out do the other in this weird situation.
