Correct the Waratahs wont be paying him that much but they will allow him to do something the Tigers or the NRL never did. They will allow him to play Japanese Rugby during their off season. Also no doubt Benji will be banking on making the All Blacks. So depending the money he is offered by both codes and whatever bonuses he may get, Benji could earn close to $1.5-2 million next year

Benji would have to play for a NZ franchise to make the ABs

And he would have to play good , something he has struggled to do in a game he is used to playing so I dont know how he thinks he will just walk into the AB's.

He knows he won't be able to do that. Hence why he'll play for a Japense team over the off season and then sign for the Warratahs for 2014 - I can almost guarantee it'll play out like that. He'd have a much better chance of playing some international football for an Australian team in turmoil.

Will make a mockery of international union, with a former Kiwis test captain becoming a wallaby. Might actually be a good thing for League having international union's eligibility exposed. It might even take the spot light away from the eligibility cluster f*ck that we are going to see at the league world cup this year.

I love Benji and I would be very surprised if he is going to be paid more than what we are going to offer him however good luck to him.

I think that this may turn out for the best for the club as a whole. Our salary cap issues should be over and hopefully we can get two young halves that develop into something special.

To me this is all about him being pissed off about Beau Ryan and Heigno.

If he's gonna be that much of a little bitch, I don't want him to play another game for us... I can't imagine how half hearted his attempts of tackling the Warriors this friday night.

If Benji plays we'll get lapped.

I actually think the opposite about this weekend.

As it stands, he hasn't secured a deal anywhere for next year, so he's going to have to show all interested parties what he has to offer.

He never had to bother to do at the tigers before.

If he plays like shit for us for the rest of the year, no one will sign him

Problem becomes if he starts playing 100% for his own ends. If he does that the team suffers and he needs to be dropped

I wrote here a few weeks ago that I had heard from someone who knows him that he is bored with playing league and also envious of Israel Folau who has done very well for himself by switching codes, so now Benji is looking for that challenge. I think his moaning about the tigers contract negotiations is just a smokescreen as he probably doesn't want to give his real reason for leaving. Boredom with the game would explain the dumb errors he has been making on the field and overall lack of effort. A great player on his day, but ruined by Sheens. Best for him and the Tigers that he goes. I don't want to denigrate the guy in any way - I will always be grateful for his role in the '05 grand final and the many exciting things he has done on the field for us. I hope that going to union works out well for him.

The cynic in me says that RL does not provide the acceptance to the social set he and his new bride are so desperate to be a part of as well

Great high light package Ed,shows how good Benji was.It seems unbelievable that he would knock back 2.1 mill considering the form he is in now.

I really enjoyed the highlight package. I suppose this in some ways also shows the demise of Benji. When he was younger and just did what he did best, he was nearly unstoppable. Once he tried to manufacture plays he seemed to lose his way...perhaps that had a lot to do with the pressure of not having a really good half in place for the latter part of his time with the Tigers. His physical transformation surprised me.

Still and all, I will always have fond memories of him, loved the grand final try but still rate the try he set up against the Shark the highlight...

Interesting, being a cynic myself I keep thinking back to Ch 9 and his employment after football.

If he joins the leather patch on the elbows mob, there are too many former 'greats' already contracted to Ch 10 & Foxtel and who know more about rugby. The other thing is, will he be truly be accepted there? This is Sydney I'm talking about.

Auckland might be a different thing but that's OK for him, I wonder if Mrs Marshall will be happy there?

Maybe his plan is to not be a duel international as we know it but a RL international / Olympian and believes he needs to be Auckland to achieve that. Funny though if the Oz 7's call him up 1st after all he has lived here for long enough.

Staying in league, staying at the Tigers and staying at Ch 9 gives him the exposure he loves. Staying in Sydney gives Mrs Marshall the exposure she craves.

Who knows, maybe the RL might step in and say 'we need to keep these players in the game' after all they did lose Isreal and now that they have SBW back, they are the things the RL should be addressing. Maybe he would be happy to take the money and stay and then simply retire earlier than expected.

The cynic in me says that this is all about Mayer/Potter now being in charge and showing the likes of Marshall/Moltzen and Ayshford that things have changed. Why do I mention them, didn't someone in the know post that it was the 3 of them who were caught drinking whilst in recovery? a big no no. Couldn't drop Moltzen and Ayshford as they were out, Marshall was OK to play but Potter let them all know (the team that is) that no one, is more important than the team. Marshall was not happy from that day forward.

The fact that he has said he won't play against the Tigers and the fact that he has not apparently signed with a Super 15 team is interesting but then again, maybe he has and he will be off to RU soon.

Its his call but to my way of thinking he may be making the wrong decision.

For my 2 cents worth I reckon he has made the right call if he did want to do something else and was stale with league. It was now or never and he made a choice he will have to live with. WT will go on, no-one is irreplaceable.

I think he'll stay in league, either Broncos, Titans or Gus' love fest of Marshall will bring him to Penrith

Don't think he will be allowed to.

The only way the Wests Tigers grant his release is that he doesn't play NRL for the final years of what would have been his contract

In some ways it doesn't make sense him leaving league with good money offered, possible career after league with channel nine etc. but if Benji can not accept the dirrection Potter is taking the team than the best option for all is for him to move on.Anyone noticed how most of these league players who switch to union later switch back to league, cant blame them when scores are 36-34 one try apiece...and we think refs are killing our game..lol
