I see what you're saying but last night our forwards never laid the platform required to win. We expect a lot from Woods and Co who are only young. I am not upset at the loss. Actually I came away pleased about what I had seen in NYC and NRL.

Just received 2 txt messages saying he has signed with Tahs.

Assume he loses his contract at Ch 9 now. Maybe why the 2 Ch 9 guys, Sterlo and Johns were happy to come out and say what they did today regarding Marshall taking responsibility for this effort/actions.

Named my son after him (Marshall).

I'm very disappointed in how this has all ended up, surely he should see out his two year deal and earn the contract extension.

I'd hate to see him leave like this, but he can't hold the club to ransom, especially when he's not producing on the field (consistently).

Heading to Bali for a holiday when your team is 6-10 is a disgrace and I take it as an up yours to the fans and club that have helped make him.

One sad Tigers fan.

It is pretty sad at the moment. Personally I think he should accept what he is on now and a massively reduced contract for a further 2 years.

On top of that I think he needs to get out of the media with regards to the contract discussion and stop making dumb mistakes.

He isn't playing as bad as a bunch of posters are making out but he is still making schoolboy errors.

I agree Tiger05 its the schoolboy errors (throwing behind Simona and in touch, the forward pass to Ashford and the obvious one not finding touch).

Too often Benji's (unforced) errors lead to tries to the opposition, teh Defence has to take some fault there, but if we played smarter we wouldn't be under so much defensive pressure.

If you did a season long possession %, i reckon we'd be last in that stat.

Cue Mad Unit.

That's his real issue, if he cut out all the dumb errors you would want to keep him, at least until his contract is up in 2015. But he makes the same mistakes week in, week out and it is killing us.

Is is killing us. The thing is he is playing well for most of the game but then a clanger. I see him doing so much right and then for instance he will kick it into touch off a penalty kick or with 2 minutes to go he goes for the chip kick in our own half.

I don't get how he can seriously think he is worth more money at this point. Cut out the poor plays, get a modest increase for the next 2 years and then a substantial decrease for the following two years. That should be where it ends. I wonder if he has the wrong people around him telling him stuff at this point.

In the end it is a guy living off past glories.

He came from very humble beginnings and he is trying to cash in for all that he is worth.

The simple facts are that you cannot have one of your highest paid players making the same mistakes he was making in 2003 and hamstringing your salary cap position to do so.

Either way we owe him the upgrade for two seasons and have to eat that unless he goes all $BW which is a possibility

Benji has always had those clangers in his game, even when he was in his prime, the only difference now is that he doesn't run the ball and now being older he should know better through experience!

Spot in benched tiger.

Just like what Sterlo was saying:

Peter Sterling, Matthew Johns: Time for Benji Marshall to accept responsibility of a senior player

An old criticism of Benji Marshall might be heard by him again if Mick Potter shares the opinion of top rugby league analyst Peter Sterling.

Wests Tigers have had a mixed start to the year, holding on for a 10-point win over Penrith in round two after getting thumped 42-10 by Newcastle in round one.

And while they've shown glimpses of brilliance Sterling believes Marshall could be responsible for throwing wins away if he keeps choosing low percentage plays in the closing stages.

"I was concerned about some of the things he did towards the end of that win over Penrith," Sterling pointed out, speaking on his new show Sterlo on Thursday night.

"When you get to that last 10 minutes in the game holding a lead, I'd like to see the Tigers play to the fourth or fifth tackle and then have a shot at four, have a shot at field goal or roll it into the in-goal. That's how you play out a game."

A guest on the Sterlo panel was Marshall's Tigers teammate Braith Anasta.

The former State of Origin ball-player agreed that the genius five-eighth was still yet to find the right balance within the Tigers' new structure under Potter.

"It's about finding a balance, I think," Anasta said.

"He's still got to play the way he does with his instinctive play and play off the cuff.

"He can read the game so well but at times he may need to pull it back, play with the structure a bit more and just be a bit more patient I suppose."

Fox Sports rugby league expert Matthew Johns went a step further, saying it was time for Marshall to finally grow into the responsibility that comes with being a senior player.

Absolutely.
He had the clangers in the good times - it's just that there'd also be all sorts of ridiculous moments that'd make you shake your head (in a good way). None of this any more, he's basically become a bog average half. His kicking game is as inconsistent as it ever was, he doesn't run the ball at all, passing game is hit & miss.
The good is no longer outweighing the bad. Time for a change.

Danny Weidler tweeted last night that he had just spoken to Martin Tauber and that Benji WILL NOT be joining the Waratahs !!! Benji said he would never play for another nrl club so do we assume he is staying ? Or is there another offer he is considering ?

I think he will be staying because he won't have any other realistic choice if it comes down to money.

I hope for our sake he drops the crud plays out of his game for good and accepts a minimal contract for his final 2 years.

He should also dump Tauber.

I want him to stay but not to make consistent critical mistakes. In reality though there is no reason to be confident he can get his game together.

He is also past his best and this crap playing out in the media is annoying.
