damn there are some good packs out there.

perhaps its easier to name the worst packs....

IMO Tigers, Dogs (SBW aside, but he will be injured...), NQ, Parra & Saints are at the back of the pack.

Knights are an unknown quantity. we could be up the top or down the bottom, just cant tell.

the loss of Cross and that dog Newton has brought Melb back to the field. a lot will depend on whether Kaufusi can come back. They aren't head and shoulders above the rest anymore.

these are all salary cap packs ...

none of them hold a candle to the dogs pack of several years back, or any of the great club packs.

every club has deficiencies.

All told melbourne have the least weakness, but their depth may be tested a bit this season.

Most of the packs listed in this thread are closer to the weakest in the comp tbh - newcastle, cronulla, penrith especially

penrith could be a strong pack if they live up to potential but have some of the comps greatest underachievers of 2007 - woolnough, priddis, pritchard, pelatua especially

I'm pretty satisfied with Manly's pack. Needs some mongrel however. And Anthony Watmough needs to never play as bad as he did in the grand final ever, ever again.

I agree kaufusi is important to how we replace Cross, but if can show the form he was showing in that first SOO he'll surpass anything Cross gave us. Also dont forget about Adam Blair, massive talent & injury free he'll be very, very good for us.

The one spot I am concerned about is the back-up hooker.

For Parra;

8-Cayless
9-Riddell
10-Cordoba
11-Hindmarsh
12-Hauraki
13-Mateo

14-M Keating
15-Robinson
16-MoiMoi
17-Paulo

Backups-Wagon, Galuvao

Pretty good IMO. Not the best but top 5 or 6. Depth, especially experienced depth, might be an issue for us but the starting pack is pretty damn good...

Knights surely odds on for the spoon in 2008 with Andrew Johns no longer there conducting "The ONE!!!!! MAN Band!!!!!

2001 GF Win was an obvious farce considering that the "ONE MAN" & a majority of his team mates were somehow playing well above their "natural" abilities.

Eels pack gave it to feared Dogs pack in last years Final series with Knights players sitting in the Grandstand & gave a few Melbourne forwards a belting the week after.

Look ordinary the Knights with the 'worst' coach on the planet at the helm.

Will not make the 8!!!!!

On paper Penrif would have the best pack:

70centsalitre
Priddis
Frank Puletua (07 his best year ever)
Tony Puletua
Pritchard
Waterhouse

Of course that pack has to :

1. Turn-up on the day.
2. Make up of the lack of halves.

Would have gone alot better with former Dragon's Champions in Daniel Wagon {5/8} & Chris Quinn {fullback} thommo4pm.

Dragons should do well in 2008 with "THE GERM" Simon Woolford leading the way.

16. Te Maari
17. Sullivan

Struggle street at Belmore.

Hopefully they get David Sillington and then they wont look as bad...they are definately one good solid front rower short. I rate Te Maari and Koopa really made me eat my words last season. Armit doesn't convince me and Hickey isn't much chop imo, good for impact, not for anything else.

I dunno man that is a pretty nice pack still. One wonders where Mason was fiting into that back row anyway? I also rate Kouparitsis and Armit extremely highly...Armit in particular will play for Australia i have no doubt.

As for dominating packs, id be looking for a pack with more youth and athletisism, the game is moving toward fast play the balls again.

8. Peter Cusack

10. Roy Asotasi
11. David Kidwell
12. David Fa'alogo
13. John Sutton

14. Dean Widders
15. Luke Stuart

18. Scott Geddes
19. Jaiman Lowe
20. Eddy Pettbourne

Quality, variety and depth.

   :D :p

And as for the halves...the plan is atm 6. Rogers 7. Wing 14. Paea... and when Luke comes off Paea into half, wing into hooker.

rofl. Not our fault JT and Buetner cant tackle, nor was it our fault that we were the only team that exploited it all year.
