Someone else said it. What if Tallis never turned up. What if Wayne Bennett said he had better things to do. The scribes would have gone ballistic.

Is Fittler hiding an injury he picked up in Sundays game? He definitely did something to himself in one tackle, was limping and went off soon after. I think this is the real reason.
Wayne Bennett often does it. It's not uncommon for Bennett to not attend the coaches forums where rules are discussed and then criticise those rules for eternity. I'm not saying Fittler was right, i also believe it was wrong, but it does happen with other people and things in the game.

this opens wide the argument and possibly the withdrawals of team captains from future finals team photos whenever they're deemed "not fit enough to have photos taken of", by the club.

We'll do what we want, whenever we want.

Basically sums up the attitude of your club and supporter base nicely, doesn't it League Fraud?

probably on a police stations doorstep.
At least he wasnt hitting on a team mates missus, or fighting the same team mate over it, or pretending to have a sore neck, or refusing to shake hands after a semi final loss, or throwing his mouthguard into the turf.....sound familiar?

Boo hoo! So he didn't attend a photo shoot. I think I remember he didn't attend one last year as well with Ricko in his place at Telstra Stadium?

Look up the word obsession! It's what you all have with the Roosters.

Chook.

Exactly, Chook. If it had been some other captain, nothing would have been said. It's the old, familiar story.

Bollucks, there would be an even bigger uproar if Tallis had not attended. Just because it's your team you don't care. Rooster fans harp on about what a great tradition the club has, when it suits them of course.

And really how much of a "mental strain" would it have been for Fittler to put on his playing gear, pose for a photo, say a few words then leave? Is he that mentally weak?
The Broncos should get some tradition first, then bag the others about it.

Who bloody cares!!!!!! Who cares if Tallis doesnt turn up? He didnt on Friday night.

Who cares if Woolford doesnt turn up? He'll be in the stands when it counts...suspended.

Pull your bloody skirts back up you pack of old women!!

It's a classless act by the Roosters, and totally lacks respect not only to the NRL, but to the other captains who made huge sacrifices to be there. He's the captain of the minor premiers FFS, and to snub the traditional promotional day and photo shoot is simply lousy. It cheapens the event and the official photograph that will be plastered on everything to do with the finals this week.

Macavity said it perfectly, its a non-issue. The NRL will ask the Roosters why it happen, but its not worth making a huge deal about it.

Why is it a non issue, its a big issue....they went directly against an NRL directive....ALL captains to the semi final media do........should they be able to do as they please?
Whos running this show?
Arrogant, selfish and not a very good example to kids either I'm afraid.

Technically when Freddy was rested for the last 25 minutes on Sunday Ricko was skipper. So when they asked for skippers to turn up Ricketson turned up. ;-)

In another thread all we read about is people saying they are sick of seeing and hearing Fittler and his impending retirement. If he turns up yesterday and the media decide to focus on him as it's his last finals and they asked him how good Sunday was for him and took away a bit of the hype surrounding the finals because they were after a Fittler story he would have been labelled a media hog.

He should have turned up but didn't. At least they sent a replacement.

traditional?

i may be wrong but how long has the captains photo shoot been going?

It hasn't been going for long, but it still qualifies as a tradition. All traditions start somewhere, and this is something that is intended to be a a notable event in the lead up to the finals, just like the the Grand Final breakfast.

You can almost guarentee this will be the last. Because..

1. The roosters will order it to end.
2. You can't expect Wayne Bennett, or any other interstate(or sydney for that matter) club to bother sending their captain to this event if they don't have to, when they could be training with the side.

The Courier reported this morning that Freddy was "stressed" out after a hectic week. He's had his farewell dinner and tributes and played a big game on the weekend. Leave the poor bloke alone

Meanwhile, while freddy was 100m away relaxing with his team-mates, the captain of the Cowboys, in the middle of having the flu and one of the most important weeks in the cowboys history, travelled 3 hours to make the shoot.

Sorry roosters fans, but that's how it is. Steven Price looks very natural next to the trophy this year, and if brisbane aint gonna win it - I sure as hell hope that gimp freddy doesn't get his hands on it.

Hmmm I am sure Fittler won't be to stressed on the weekend
quite simply reeks of Roosters arrogance , considering captains could make it from interstate but little sooky couldn't be arsed going 100m..maybe a wheelchair was needed

What a freaking joke

No penalty? For ruining a great promotional photo by the NRL? Simply highlighting the joke administration we have.

Yeah, that's nearly as bad as getting no penalty for testing positive to cocaine.
