Bring Back Brian Smith

If Saints had a brain they would because he will only help prepare Hornby and Young when they eventually take over which is what you think is what Saints are aiming for in the long run. Alot of good coaches have come from Sheens and Smithy so it just makes sense to give these 2 coaches (Smith or Sheens) a 2 year contract and if all goes good extend, if not Hornby and Young would surely be ready when their contracts are up.

Nathan Hindmarsh talks up Smithy so he must be pretty good. The only guys that bag him are Tallis, Mundine etc. Guys with huge ego's and Smithy probably put them in place that is why because he has the balls to do so not play Mr Nice guy all the time.
Interesting you say that because the only decent coach that I can think of that came from
Bennett is Bellamy.

So people don't want Brian Smith because he can't win a GF? I would rather the team make the Grand Final than watch the team play unattractive footy and miss the 8 each year. Beggars can't be choosers. How many highlights have we had in 2 seasons? No game has stood out that is for sure. With Smithy there are plenty of highlights as well as lowlights. Under Price it's all lowlights.

How many other coaches apart from Bellamy, Hasler and Bennett (now Robinson) have won a GF in the last 10 years? Beggars can't be choosers. Sheens snuck one in as well in the 10 years of dominance by thoses 3 and people don't want him either.

Jason Taylor was Smith's assistant at the Eels, and I am pretty sure the Roosters guy Robinson was part of Smith's coaching staff at the Chooks before he went to England. Browny learnt from Smithy as well.

Wasn't Bellamy working under Sheens at Canberra before he went to the Bronco's? And Bellamy played at Canberra whilst Sheens was coaching so I am sure he would have picked up a thing or 2.

Hopefully the Saints lose there opening 4 games s, and our dreams come true, slippery.
I can't see the sense in people wanting 3-3 start, then hoping for a top 8 finish, it's like waiting for rain.

Your a Saints "supporter" & you want us to loose the opening 4 games. I preferably do not want you on my side irrespective of your motives. How about supporting the players like you should be doing & forget about any coaching issues until we see how we are going in the comp. if the coach needs to be replaced so be it, but shit let's support all the boys & hope they pull a few pants down.
Also forgot, Dice Dino!!!!

I wrote this for season 2013 – Coach Price has made a seriously strong contribution and commitment to the club for many seasons and thoroughly deserves that to be reciprocated by all and sundry”
At least publicly, the club admin has supported Coach Price pretty well it appears. He seems to be happy with the purchases suggesting they were his picks as were staff changes.

And this – “Most difficult team to rate before season starts. I reckon we will a
ll know more four to six weeks in when we can see the way they are going about their football and how they think they can win”
I can’t remember thinking “these guys look like they know how to play winning footy”. At times I thought the opposite.

And recently Gareth Widdop said this post Charity Shield wipeout: “We just need to fix up our D and the rest will fall into place”. I think I heard a news grab where coach Price said something very similar. I know coaches and players deflect at times but that’s so far off the mark it would be laughable if not so serious for everyone involved at the Dragons.

Why not: “Boy did we get shown up today by a really top team just how much work we have got to do as soon as possible. Congrats to Souths – so now let’s make sure we all learn from this and get cracking tomorrow. That’s what we play trials for.”

If this is the “Strongest Line-Up” according to Big League we can see some fresh faces in key positions.

1 Dugan
2 Morris
3 Beale
4 Farrell
5 Nightingale
6 Widdop
7 Williams
8 Merrin
9 Rein
10 Hunt
11 Creagh
12 Thompson
13 Harrison
14 Groat
15 Frizell
16 De Bellin
17 Cooper
October Outcome:
It’s probably time to deliver now for the coach, his staff and players. What is deliver? I guess we might have differing views on that.

More likely an August finish. Anything above the bottom four would be something positive I feel.
But every season in modern NRL at least one team surprises almost everyone with a terrific transition from also rans to play-offs. Here are a couple of notable examples:
Roosters 2009 wooden spooners to GF in 2010.

And in 2013 it was a stirring finish by the Cowboys only to lose controversially in the play-offs
Will it be the Dragons in 2014?

What does this mean for the Dragons? For a more in-depth analysis and who can make or break it for the Red V click here.
A special thanks to NRLSTATS and BIG LEAGUE for their support and statistical data.

As I thought, you still want us to loose our first 4 games. That my friend is not being a true supporter & you should be ashamed to call yourself one. I don't care what you think of the coaching situation, you should never hope that we loose games.
I may be on my own in this regard, but I don't care, & I will fully support the team & hope that we do win most of our early games, get a bit of a combination & proceed with more wins.
Stop death threatening the team even before the comp starts.

Do you think Liverpool or Barcelona Fans would cop 2 years of crap?

Who gives a s..t . We are discussing the St George Illawarra Rugby League club & if you want your team to lose games, & down tread our team, go & follow overseas football.

If Dragons players and staff were being paid the same amount of money, they would certainly expect more out of their performance. You've mentioned two of the greatest clubs in the most popular code in the world.

Dragons hardly have the same reputation (even on an Australian scale). We're good, but we're not 'Barca good'

Enjoy the season boys, all good.

Off to the football.????. No supporter should wish that their team loose games to please their own agenda. It is a rotten thing to do.
To the rest of the posters on this forum, I apologise to you for my rant, but I can not sit back & take what St Georgio is saying in his posts.

Those European soccer comparisons are just my favourite things in the world. I love the complete irrelevancy of it. The idea of a salary cap is so quaint

I think St Georgio, like many of us is venting his frustration. I could be wrong, but based on his comments, i doubt he would watch a game and cheer on the opposition. Rather, he is fed up with stop gap measures. As an example, 2-3 wins and Pricey is home and hosed by round 5.

With reference to Barcelona and Liverpool, yep its a different stratosphere, but fans are fans. They have massive followings but the passion of success runs though to the minor leagues as well. In the pure sense of support, the salary cap is irrelevant. Did we support Saints prior to the cap? After the cap? The lack of a cap in these prestigious leagues doesnt change their fan base. Just their balance sheets.

I will cheer them on every time they run out of the Red V. I will celebrate every try, kick and tackle. But unlike previous seasons, if we are 1 and 5, I wont be heartbroken. Conversely, if they at 5 and 1, I will be ecstatic.

I disagree on an Australian scale we are every bit as good. Nothing defines an Aussie sporting club more than a red vee on a white jumper in my world.
