something the nrl has no power to investigate

well yes and no, there is clearly some unanswered significant questions about how this money was used by the Brisbane Broncos. The NRL could punish them until they come clean about what the $300k was used for. Saying we are't telling you and the nrl shrugging its shoulders and saying no evidence is really not good enough.

You mean what Gee used the money for, who says the Broncos knew anything about it, everything that has been reported lends itself to believing Gee went off the reservation. The Broncos have cooperated fully with the NRL.

You can't punish without appropriate evidence. What the leagues club does with it's money is none of the NRL's business unless they can prove the funds went to the players, which they can't. You can not punish under an assumption of guilt or till you get a confession for a breach you can't prove. News Ltd lawyers would have a field day if they tried an ongoing punishment like you are suggesting.

Imagine if you got dragged into court, judge said look, we know you speed, we can't prove it, but we know you do, so we are going to keep giving you fines until you admit you speed and then we'll fine you for speeding...

This.

On another note, It amazes me how hypocritical some people on this forum can be. Player gets accused of assault and you're a f**king idiot if you criticize them because their "innocent until proven guilty", yet an incident like this comes up and you're a moron if you think the Broncos aren't guilty, even though nothing conclusive has been found (the opposite of this is just as true). Baffling stuff.

You live in Brisbane mate, pop down to the leagues club, go up the stairs to the right, walk into the boardroom and tell them your theories.

I'm sure they'll be happy to accommodate you ;-)

Sharks used the same excuse, elkin going off the reservation and the club claiming not knowing what dank was doing. Didn't stop them being punished for poor governance of their employees

A little different there but. An investigation proved poor governance at the Sharks led to misconduct, and they have been punished accordingly. As far as we currently know, there is no proven wrongdoing stemming from any poor oversight at the Broncos, so there are no grounds for punishment.

Well gee is no longer working there, what else could they do? In hindsight gee should never have been in a position to do what he did, he shouldn't have been eligible to be a director of the leagues club while also football GM. The bigger governance failure is from the leagues club, not the football club.

so there is nothing suss about the fact that Gee hasn't been charged with stealing the money? ok then, you try taking 300k from your work tomorrow and see what happens to you.

Well, looks like I can continue supporting my team. I really hope we didn't do any dodgy shit and this whole saga teaches the club to just stay away from dodgy practices.

He hasn't walked off into the sunset having pilfered 300k, the money was repayed.

and again, you try that today. take 300k from your work. don't tell anybody and wait until there is an investigation over it. then, suddenly pay it back. you'll be doing that though from either behind bars or your local centrelink office after you get released. its called embezzlement. how none of you bronco supporters can see that is beyond words.

He didn't steal the money.

At this stage, its unconfirmed where the money went or how it was returned.
