Regardless of whether Smith should or shouldn't get a ban for the tackle, Waldron's "integrity" defence is downright absurd. He's made himself a laughing stock.

I agree, pretty stupid thing to say. Shouldn't matter who the player is, or what he says.

If he gets sited will he follow this path:

1. Fight the charge (obvious)
2. When suspended for "x" games immediately seek leave to appeal
3. Appeal granted freeing Smith to play
4. Appeal date set for after the GF
5. Original suspension stands
6. Smith serves suspension in first few pool games of the world cup

Leave to appeal cases are heard on the Thurday/Friday before the match. And appeal is only granted on a point of law so to speak. In short it won't happen that way. The only way is to "appeal" the leave to appeal decison in the Supreme Court (has occurred in the AFL)

Don't think a player has ever geen given permission to play with a judiciary charge pending.

Balmain tried hard with Blocker Roach in 1988. Got a 4 match ban in the last round for belting someone from Manly. Last game of the ban was the GF. Balmain tried to sign him up with Wigan for a game before the GF, so he could serve his last match as a suspended Cherry Red!

NSWRL wouldn't grant the transfer :lol:
