Hey atleast he had the balls to jump in the ring and have a go...Good on him
Kudos to you.
Seems like there's still plenty of w*nkers on this forum.
Armchair experts, gotta' love them:lol:
look i think the whole of NSW really enjoyed seeing Carl Webb get punched in the face. why are we arguing?
Yeah I suppose after 4 years of failure a washed up Queensland player getting knocked out would please me too!

No it was just funny seeing another Queensland hard man get belted by a nuffie. Brett White, the Lewis boxer, whose next? Roy Bell?

BTW, where was Hodges to defend him?

Carl was easily winning on points..!!!! You could tell it was his first pro fight and his opponent was quite use to it.. Couldn't cop the hits like the other guy was.. If he had some more training he would be ureal.!

I was a bit harsh on him. I have full respect for anyone that gets into the ring to box..

That being said. There has been significant time and copious Big Mac meals since Charlie was the junior QLD boxing champion at 16.

His fitness is atrocious and very suprising for a current professional league player. Hopeate would outlast him.

That might be true now, but would it be the case back when Hoppa first stepped into the ring from playing footy?

As ive said, im more than happy to see Charlie continue his extra (boxing) training to improve his on field fitness levels, but thats all its for, he isnt trying to be a pro boxer. He will probably have another go at a later date (Billy is trying to line something up before the season kicks off) and ill be watching with interest coz i like the guy, but win/lose/draw it makes no difference as long as he is getting fitter and stronger for the Cows.

If Carl Webb was beaten by this guy, imagine what this lad would have done to Luke Bailey who basically cried and lost form for 3 years after Charlie roughed him up in SOO a few years ago.

Time for footy now, says Carl webb

JOSH ALSTON
January 13th, 2010
CARL Webb's trainer Billy Johnstone is not willing to blame a timekeeping aberration for the Cowboy's stunning loss in his professional boxing debut.
Highly fancied to make short work of New South Wales' Scott Lewis, the forward ran out of puff in the third round in Sydney on Monday and the fight was called moments after he survived a standing eight-count.
Part of the reason behind the loss was that rounds lasted three minutes - confusing spectators, commentators and Webb's trainers. The 28-year-old had been slated to fight over four two-minute rounds and had trained accordingly.
''When it went to two minutes and one second we though something was going on then,'' Johnstone said.
''We trained for four two-minute rounds because that's what we were told we were going to do.
''He wasn't aware of it, we didn't let him know (in between rounds).''
Johnstone said the curve ball was just part of boxing and pointed to the main bout of the night as proof fighters need to be prepared for the unexpected.
''In boxing there are a lot of tricky things that happen,'' he said.
''(Robert) Medley trained for three months for a world title fight (against Anthony Mundine) and then three days before (it) he was told it was not a world title fight – that's boxing.
''You've got to be versatile, you've got to be flexible.''
While the loss was disappointing for Johnstone and Webb, it is likely to have positive flow-on effects for the Cowboys. The forward is 100 per cent committed to football now with any future fights to come in the next off-season.
Johnstone said the extra training to prepare for the bout had
Webb in perfect shape to launch a strong assault on this year's campaign and gain bigger minutes on the field.

''The idea from the football department was it's something that he (Webb) really wanted to do and it will help him in football in the long run we think,'' Johnstone said.
`'For example, you compare him to this time last year, he's turned up after Christmas six kilos lighter, which is very important for his mobility on the football field.
''The coach has been talking about playing him in a different role this year, football-wise.
''He'll be carrying less weight and getting more minutes out for the coach, for the team and for himself. That was the main motivation from us in the football department.
''The other side of it was it was something that he really wanted to do and we wanted to support him as much as we could.''

Queenslanders always blame something after a loss.

He's only on the field in 2 minute stints anyway. Imagine how hard it will be for Henry to stretch it to THREE.

I bet his girlfriend would like him to make it to three minutes as well!

Loss?? im sorry, us Queenslanders aren't familiar with this word (its been a while you see), perhaps a NSW'shman can explain its meaning to us?

Qld have lost a game every SOO series in the last 4 years, including the last one that was played.

Memory issues Charlie?
