Hockey quote from today:

"If the coalition is elected on the 21st of August, we will be doing everything we can to support the Bears getting back into the NRL."

Obviously no major detail but he also said this:

"The Bears are getting a proposal together, to put to the NRL - it may involve new facilities in the area - that's something the coalition would definitely support."

LIBERAL PARTY GET BEHIND THE BEARS
6th August, 2010 | Posted by Central Coast Bears
Today liberal candidate for Robertson Darren Jameson and Liberal candidate for Dobell John McNamara, as well as shadow treasurer Joe Hockey have jointly committed their strong support for a state of the art training facility for the Central Coast Bears.

The Central Coast Bears are seeking admission into the National Rugby League in 2013 and a world-class training facility would increase that prospect, benefiting both electorates.

"The Central Coast Bears Academy of Sport will be a world class sport science and high performance facility for the development of Central Coast sport, and a home for the Central Coast Bears," said Greg Florimo, Chief Executive Officer, Central Coast Bears.

Among the long list of facilities will be an Olympic-standard gymnasium, a state of the art recovery centre, full sized turf and synthetic training fields (for hockey), high performance offices and meeting rooms, and community recovery and hydrotherapy equipment.

The academy, which is the brainchild of Central Coast Bears Head of Football Operations David Fairleigh, will also link with the University of Newcastle and TAFE to provide programs focused on sports medicine, sport psychology, nutrition, health and lifestyle, sports administration, strength and conditioning and drugs in sport.

"The facility will also provide accommodation, enabling national and international sporting teams to use the Central Coast as a base during major sporting events, enhancing regional exposure," said Mr Florimo.

"We are in preliminary talks with several stakeholders about housing the Centre of Excellence and a preliminary estimate of $19.48 million to build the facility. So any financial support we can attract from the government or private sectors would be most welcome."

Mr Jameson said the entire Central Coast would gain from an NRL club, which would play its games at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford.

"An investment in this training facility is an investment in our community. As the representative for Robertson, I will fight to fund it," Mr Jameson said.

"A Central Coast NRL team will boost tourism and economic growth."

"More people will come to the Central Coast, meaning more revenue for our local businesses. This is good for the community."

Mr McNamara said this training facility at would also encourage local youth to participate in sport.

"Sport teaches our children values, respect and responsibility and encourages healthy lifestyles. This proposed training facility will benefit the kids of Dobell," Mr McNamara said.

"Linking this facility to the Bears and the Central Coast Academy of Sport will provide a regional sporting hub that will attract many new sporting events to our area. It's vital that we encourage youth to be active and participate in sport. This facility would provide a venue for that."

"An NRL team is important to not only grow our economy, but also act as a unifying symbol for the Central Coast. A state of the art training facility in Dobell would bring enormous benefits," Mr McNamara said. "As a Wyong Shire Councillor and a Board Member of the Central Coast Sports Federation I have always been a strong advocate for such facilities."

"We've watched Labor spend recklessly on home insulation and BER schemes. In contrast this new training facility is an investment that, without a doubt, would create jobs and be good for our economy," said Mr McNamara.

ha ha, they're suggesting major national investment in schools and an investment aimed at improving the environment is lees worthy than a training facility for a professional multi million $ sports business. You've gotta love politicians!

I'm waiting for David Gallop to come out and say - " we will not consider the CC Bears bid because they don't have a Centre of Excellence yet. Apart from that issue, we have also received a bid from Nauru which is headed by a bloke I once met in a pub 12 years ago. At this stage, you would have to say Nauru has the inside running. BUT - we do appreciate the effort from the Bears over 11 years and will revisit their bid in 2025 because we want to fish where the fish are blah blah blah blah."

CENTRAL COAST BEARS RECORD 10% SPIKE IN MEMBERSHIPS IN ONE WEEKEND
10th August, 2010 | Posted by Central Coast Bears
The Central Coast Bears bid for an NRL licence went into overdrive over the weekend of Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August, with the league's next franchise increasing members by a whopping 10%.

After successful visits to Central Coast mega centres Erina Fair and Westfield Tuggerah on Saturday, and the popular Berowra Woodchop Festival on Sunday, the Bears lifted membership by almost 200 new members, and past the magic 2,200 mark.

The Central Coast is aiming to have 5,000 members and 100 individual foundation and business sponsorships by March 31, 2011.

The hard working Bears have 25 foundation members and sponsors, in addition to major sponsors Mortgage House and Fortunity. Red & black fans also made a beeline for the club's popular merchandising range, with the foundation jersey, training tee shirts and supporter caps proving the most sought after items.

Central Coast Bears CEO Greg Florimo at Erina Fair and Head of Football Operations David Fairleigh at Tuggerah, were also on hand to meet with fans and sign autographs.

"I am overwhelmed by the support of the Central Coast community and clearly there are plenty of local rugby league fans who are more than willing to link with the Bears' bid for a licence in 2013," said Mr Florimo.

"Not only did we sign up 200 new members, but we reached out to hundreds more Central Coast residents who are very enthusiastic about a local team in the NRL.

"This membership drive wouldn't have been possible without the support of Erina Fair, Westfield Tuggerah and Apex Berowra, who run the Woodchop Festival," added Mr Florimo.

In addition, Rebel Tuggerah gave new Central Coast Bears' members 10% discount cards. "This is a fabulous and generous gesture to Central Coast rugby league fans and underlines the growing commercial support for the bid."

David Fairleigh added, "As a product of the Central Coast, I am very confident that we are winning over the hearts and minds of the local community."

I just signed up another 10 qld based ccbears members. From the streets to the parks more people in qld know about the ccbears bid now then any other bid. Partially due to my obsession with the ccbears!

2,200 members for a team that doesn't exist yet.

What did the Roosters and Manly finish with?

I think we're a few thousand short of the roosters but not far at all from the sharks, raiders and panthers.

There's a membership drive at Greenway Park, Pennant Hills on right now til later.

The CCDRL has now agreed to have a CC Bears stall at each and every finals game for 2010. A massive turnaround and smart move by both groups. Well done.

AFL is the most popular game in Nauru. Here is the Wiki entry concerning it.

Australian rules football is the most popular sport in Nauru. There is a football league with seven teams. All games are played at Nauru's only stadium, the Linkbelt Oval. Other sports popular in Nauru include softball, cricket, golf, sailing, tennis, rugby (both union and league), and Association Football. Nauru participates in the Commonwealth Games and the Summer Olympic Games, where team members have been somewhat successful in weightlifting. Marcus Stephen has been a medallist, and he was elected to Parliament in 2003, and was elected as President of Nauru in 2007.

Keep up the good work CC Bears - our bid is streets ahead of the others.

There biggest difference between our bid and any other is the sheer amount of devoted people behind it. Be it all the management driving the bid or all the fans doing the rounds on the streets, promoting our bid by wearing merchandise or putting flags and stickers on cars.

Our bid isn't just content to make up numbers in the NRL. Our bid isn't content in just putting a team on the CC for NRL reasons.. Our bid is devoted to ensuring we are a sustainable business filled with potential growth. Our bid is ensuring we are a local commodity, a local brand, something the community can be proud of. Our bid is devoted to not only putting a team on the CC but to bring back the thousands and thousands of the lost red&black army.

One of the original rugby league teams in Australia, permanently located on the Central Coast for the region, for the people. Representing generations of past, present and future fans and supporters. Our struggle and our fight is not over but we'll get there.. oh yeah we'll get there! And when we do, we can have a quiet moment to remember about the 100 years spent in North Sydney. About the 13 years spent fighting tooth and nail for our survival, revival and re-admittance. And then spend another moment smiling into the future, about the possibilities and about how we came through the toughest ordeal any Australian sports team has ever faced and still held our heads high and still won despite criticism and constant downplaying.

We are the BEARS. From North Sydney to the Central Coast. From 1908 to 2108. From the NSWRL to the NRL. We are the mighty red&black BEARS. The real "never give up" team.

The Bears have to be in the next expansion. The second team should be the only one being discussed and it shouldn't be Ipswich or any bid that will have the involvement of Ribot.
