When Flanagan lands the job (I cant seeing him not getting it) expect Hunt to leave at end of 2023, Flanagan Jnr to be annointed the new 7 with Flanagan Snr committing to getting the best out of him...I then think some crazy changes will be on the cards like Lomax to FB, Sullivan to 6, Amone to 13 and possibly Suli in the 2nd row - all gut feelings but expect something like this to happen because we cant carry on w the same options as theyre not working so Flanagan WILL make changes and recruit some big boppers and a couple of centres ...

All I want to know is if Hasler is interested or not. For no one to even say boo either way is bazaar.

Yes, it’s intriguing.

It seems the club made the mistake of leaking or not keeping the Ryles stuff safe and the media punished the club many times over.

Hopefully that is keeping the news of Des’s imminent engagement quiet.

Even Gus thinks he’s a good fit and we’ve never agreed on anything except banning Fifita from attending junior league matches in the Panther player catchment because he’s a dickhead.

Plus he wore the initials of a one punch killer on his strapping that game. What a piece of ………

Yep you're right silver, we get to hear from all other candidates sort of , but nothing from Des, I hope your hunch is correct.

That’s the best news I’ve heard since September 2010!!!

I suppose.

From what I understand, he’s in all kinds.

I think it’s deeply problematic hanging onto him.

It’s probably in the clubs best interests for New Coach to let him go, so that you can plan properly.

It’s like knowing a player is going to be out for an indefinite unknown period. Be it prison or a holiday, surgery etc.

I just don’t think it’s good for the club as a whole.

And coaches need the full compliment to cover.

Plus you might get a jbd effect of unsettled ness, sadness and other adverse feelings if he’s taken into custody.

He needs to adjust as well to life without footy in case he is sent to the big house.

That’s sad to hear SP. it’s not nice when anybody faces stuff like that, even if it’s possibly of their own doing. TBH I just don’t see him Bringing what we need.

Yes, there’s a thread devoted to it, so I won’t labour the point, just that’s it’s a challenge for New Coach next to deal with.

I suppose it sheds some light on the roster and the need for new coach to deliver.

At interview I’d ask him who is turning up with him to see what he says.

And from a club perspective “ How and why are we going to reach the finals next year? ”

I’d be looking for a plan in the answer. I want some deep thought put into it before he’s called in.

I don’t like reading these reports of Flanno expecting the job with the club on bended knee.

Notwithstanding what might be, I wonder whether the best place for Amone right now is to slot into centre in NSW cup for the remainder of the year (outside of Origin), to prove himself in that role. If he is to make it back into FG, and Sullivan sticks at 6, that might give him his best shot. Suli at 2nd row, per Mickeylane, just testing options for 2024, may not be so crazy too!*

*Apologies, ignore. Way off topic in this thread!

Would love Des… but Flanagan looks likely

I agree.

The only way anyone will really find out if the club has made the right choice depends on what actually transpires after the appointment.

The club has to go on “best evidence”

So when Next Coach is appointed, we can try to look at the reasons, if we can break through the spin.

And we all expecting a lot of spin and not much actual justification. This is the modern world.

Under the radar. That is Des all over. us a against them. We need him
I agree it is bazaar that there has been no quote from Des or his manager (either way). Anasta even asked the DT boffons on 360 straight out if Des was in the mix/been spoken to & they had nothing to offer. That is probably good & it wasnt Captain Goose Hooper.

OPINION
Everyone thinks the Dragons No. 1 priority is to keep Ben Hunt - but I say it’s time to part ways with the champion playmaker.
There are a lot of quality players on the market FOR 2024 and the Dragons already have money to spend, they’ll have even more if they move on Hunt.
Hunt is a great player but they haven’t won with him and St George Illawarra shouldn’t be looking for short-term success, they need a full rebuild under a veteran coach.
They need an experienced coach to come in and build the club around their young talent in Junior Amone, Jayden Sullivan and Tyrell Sloan.

Then they can use Hunt’s salary to add several quality players to their roster, guys like Jake Averillo, Luke Brooks, Tommy Talau, Dane Laurie, Brian Kelly, Adam Pompey, Tesi Niu and Waqa Blake are all available.

I know Ben Hunt and respect him and if he wants to stay, he stays. But if he wants to go try and win a premiership, which he deserves, then let him and say good luck.

The Dragons are copping it left, right and centre at the moment but they’re actually in a sweet spot right now because they have their pick of the available coaches.

But wait much longer and there could be two more clubs looking for coaches in the next month and the Dragons will find themselves in a bidding war.
It’s why they must sign their next coach as soon as possible and I’ve said it all along that Shane Flanagan is the man for the job.

When you appoint a coach, the second-most important thing is his staff and right now they’d have the pick of the best available assistants.

If you look at the clubs that have taken the biggest leaps in recent years, like the Broncos, their coach has been very well resourced.

Kevin Walters was able to build a support team he’s satisfied with and hire people with the experience to build a winning foundation.

PERSONALLY I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE

Take it from me, Ben Hunt is a beautiful footy player.

Good halves are hard to find. He’s marquee.

As for building a team featuring Amone as a key talent….we’ve just discussed it.

“Best available assistants” Alex buddy, please nominate them.

Alex cites Brooks as a quality player. Oh dear….

I’m pleased Alex is presenting more an optimistic appraisal of the clubs fortune, but he’s gone a tad rogue in the effort.

A decent guy of course. We will agree to look at the promise of the club, but not the means!
