Have you seen the wording of the press release? "Cooper Cronk has requested of Melbourne Storm a press conference". It doesn't sound like Melbourne wanted or expected the press conference. It sounds like he's told them he's off.

I think that this conference shows that Cooper is well spoken, dedicated and thorough in in processes and thoughts. Really puts him in good stead to move into the business side of football in the long term or coaching. He would likely develop into a great coach under Bellamy (both somewhat intense and focussed)

I actually think that press conferences like this add to the 'drama' of the football season, increase media coverage, sponsor profile, engage the fan base. Rugby League actually has a problem with under utilising the potential of every opportunity.
