It wasn't conclusive that Foran touched the ball. It looked like he did on one of the replays but there was doubt whether there was a gap between his hand and the ball.. the other camera angles were inconclusive so the video ref had no choice but to apply benefit of the doubt. Did he touch it? probably. Was there enough video to prove he did? no.. so benefit of the doubt has to be applied.
He could have sent back a ref's call. Make a decision on the field and live with it, just like the old days. Bin any players that whinge about it, keep binning them until they learn to shut it and play footy.

Spineless f**kers relying on benefit of the doubt because they couldn't be 100% sure... :?

Because without them staying alive tonight, there would be no chance of a GF between two Sydney teams.... :sarcasm:

It's 100 times more in the NRLs interests to have a qld team alive then it is manly

Make sure that Tin foil hats on tight champ

TV-wise yes, but they need a sold out ANZ Stadium this year champ - battle for Sydney and all that ;-).

Can we take the tin foils hats off people

Why would the NRL want an all sydney grand final. it sells out regardless and they get bigger ratings when an out of town team plays a sydney team.

In saying that the cowboys were absolutely dudded by dreadful decisions by the video ref not by bias towards manly.

Yeah I agree refs call would have been a better option.

Though Shayne Hayne would have awarded the try too as he had already ruled that the ball came off Thurston as he called "6 again."

Are you suggesting explicit corruption, or are you saying the refs are going with the flow
of what the NRL would like to see because they are independently aware that it would be
beneficial to the NRL.

Explicit corruption is very unlikely, and the second case is only human.

If I was pushing the button it would have been No Try. Scrum, Knock on.

Lucky it wasn't up to you in one regard then...

That was last tackle, it's not a scrum it's just a turn over...

Not knowing the rules is even more annoying than getting them blatently wrong.... A stupid bad call is something you can't expect or train out of someone... But knowing the rules should be just in there...

Oh and not fair to totally take it out on you... I'm still just amazed at the "he didn't mean to ground it" call.... He grounded it... Period... There is no "unless you didn't want to" rule to it, there is no grey area... For example just because Foran didn't mean to knock on does NOT make that a try... Like one of the channel nine commentators said "if he then knocked that on and the Cowboys scored Manly would be screaming 'but he grounded it!'"...

Could well be... they can't have the Storm win a title while they still carry the stench of most of their illegally assembled squad members anyway.

The precedent for the grounding thing was set in the 2nd Roosters-Dragons match where RTS grounded the ball, got up, ran the length of the field, and was awarded a try.

As a complete neutral

 You have professed your love for Manly several times on this board.

I honestly don't think most people have actually gone that far though, they are just assuming based on the direction the ball travelled.

This x 10000.

Foran's hand goes towards the ball, ball goes in similar direction => Foran MUST have touched it!

That is a beautiful photo of Thurston's hand on the ball. Yet another inconclusive photo. Jeez you must have some special eyesight if you can see through Thurston's hand since Foran's is behind it. It's also pretty low quality.

FTR, I agree with what Manu said basically. From the "behind" reply it looks to me like Foran gets a small touch onto it which knocks it into Thurston's hand which ultimately means it was a knock-on.

So basically in summary, the ball was mainly propelled backwards by Thurston (you can even see his hands moving in on the main angle - neglected by all) but Foran gets a small touch to it prior to that.

Bad call, would be pissed if it was my team, but not nearly as obvious as the wowsers/bandwagoners/IT WENT FORWARDS THEREFORE FORAN idiots are claiming.

Bloody Brent Tate if he completes that catch and pass to Graham cows get a shot to do a warriors vs tigers last yr on manly.

Can only go on and on about refs so much it's clear no one in power wants to do anything about it. Commission was brought in to simplify everything and have done nothing but muddy the waters even more.

The last Manly try was a square up for the try the Cowboys got on the back of a bullshit decision.

There was nothing wrong with the "double movement" try. Benefit of the doubt any day of the week.

Lots of crying bitches out tonight.
