Knowing that the Swans contract with ANZ Stadium will soon be up and will not likely be renewed, is there any use in the ARLC lobbying the owners to bring in the southern and northern stands to produce a perminently rectangular field? Do cricket still want to use it?

Can't believe we are playing our main rival in round 14,so dumb,we should have already played them by now,Eels and Doggies is the best rivarly in the NRL,so so so dumb.

you play them again at anz in round 23, and that one is the parra home game

dogs are the ones who get dudded

if both teams are making a push for the finals that could be 60k

Were there playing and who's home game it is is not the concern, the concern is playing the best rivalry in he NRL in round 14,if anything these two teams should be opening the season every year

That pic looks more than the announced crowd but either way 50K+ for a regular season match is f*cking fantastic. This was 2 teams who have been terrible for some time now. With a few big Sydney teams stepping up this season hopefully we see some more big crowds. Big crowds like that encourage people to come back because it's just awesome to be a part of, the more big crowds like that we can get the more people will want to come back.

On another note i can remember people on this forum laughing at the idea that big crowds like that improve the spectacle when watching on tv. Both those games were made so much better by the fantastic crowd. It was great to look at and the noise just adds so much hype.

In the lead up to the dogs game i was listening on the radio and you could barely hear them over the noise of the crowd. It just creates an awesome atmosphere.

agree with all of that

it was depressing watching panthers game yesterday after the 50k at anz

It was like moving from the penthouse to the basement. The high all league fans felt in seeing such marvellous crowd at ANZ was destroyed just a few hours later by pitifully small crowd at Penrith.

It is the 8th times in the seven rounds played so far that a game has failed to reach a five figure total.

Penrith and Canberra have two each of those games already.

The Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers are having a great battle for most home crowds under 10k since the start of the 2013 season, yesterday these two brave gladiators were tied at 7 apiece but the gusty Penrith Panthers were not to be denied and came up with a sub 10k against the Titans to take a narrow 8-7 lead

The Canberra Raiders are within pouncing distance with 6,these 3 great champions are proving anything is possible if you put your mind too it

Yet the Tigers have still averaged more than Parra over the past 10 years.... strange hey??

thats on the drawing boards now

the state govt has called for tenderers to cost a proposal to build a roof on anz and make the northern and southern ends moveable for a rectangular field ie within 5 metres of dead ball line

comments by dave smith last week that he is in discussion with govt to ensure we have stadiums like melbournes ie roofed.

edit : and it could be easily paid for by re-zoning some of the empty land out there for high rise development and sold to developers ...each high rise site could be worth $20 - 40 million just for the land

didnt see that article, wow good appointment.

to think how much money the giants have had on facilities in sydney when they couldve used ANZ

they got blacktown done, then when they didnt like that got a new training facility at homebush plus $25 million into the showgrounds.

from the article :

"Panthers Group chief executive Warren Wilson, who has designs on a third top-line NRL stadium in Penrith, said rugby league had dropped the ball in fostering contacts under the game’s previous ownership structure."

Well done to the Tigers/Eels for yesterday's turn out. This once again just proves that if you schedule a game at the right time that's more family friendly and make tickets affordable enough for families people will turn out again.

Let this be a good example to those in charge that this is the way forward for all clubs from here on in.

I know!

They would prefer 35,000 getting ripped off than 45,000 happy people continuing to come.

every game this year I have witnessed people around me have slight whinges about the pricing.

And then, the Facebook admins harp on begging people to come.

The "earlybird" prices are still multiple dollar increases on last year.

I could have gone to:

Bulldogs v Rabbitohs = $12.50
Manly V Cowboys = $10
Eels V Tigers = $10
Total = $32.50.

If clubs tried to pull that sort of crap here in Sydney like the ticket prices the Broncos are charging the average NRL attendance would be 8000 people by the end of the year. So long as you guys keep turning up to Broncos games and paying those prices then they will just continue increasing each year.

NRL average now back to 16,500 after that, and will jump to over 17k, possibly more after Friday's NRL.

But, but, but, CRISIS!

Cant really say I'm happy with a few blockbuster games boosting crowd averages past last year's average and call that any sort of success.

Fact of the matter is the average Dogs vs Sharks or Rabbitohs vs Raiders crowd is still fairly shit and these games need the most work.

Raiders will come with a little bit of success (they have been the most mediocre side since the inception of the nrl. Only side to not play in a preliminary final iirc) and a few years of producing players who aren't dickheads.

You can't expect miracles from the raiders with crowds imo. It's going to take a while.

I know it doesn't mean a great deal, but the Broncos are the most popular facebook team in Australia....

They have 400k+ 'likes' - Collingwood has 270k to be top of the pops for AFL.

Again, it means very little, but perhaps it gives a slight indication of the popularity of the Broncos and why they can charge their prices.

[[For what it's worth, the Storm are second (305k likes), then Rabbitohs (225k), Eels (202k)]]

You're right.

Last year there was no 'blockbuster game' with 40k fans that boosted the average

F*cking hell, this is just how a market works...

If the demand is sufficient the price will rise. Its not like the Bronx can increase the number of seats they have in their stadium and as much as everyone would like to give away tickets cheap, that lost money means they have to take funds away from other portfolios like juniors development.....

I get that NRL fans are some of the most self-entitled people on earth, but just look at it from a perspective other than your own self-interest and you may understand why thing like this happen.

If you want cheap tickets, go watch NSW Cup. NRL is a premium product that can demand premium prices, and your protesting isnt going to change that...
