I agree mate but its about time the NRL took some control here like their counterparts in Melbourne do so well. We have a long way to go and we have to stop blaming everybody else.

Player availability for interviews and marketing should be tied to club funding. The nrl clubs enjoy a large central grant every year yet we see the same clubs every year stone wall the media and withdraw players from appearances. Truly embarrassing it's time to get tough on clubs for a start.

If there are 80k across the 4 games this week i will be surprised.

Is the problem is with a top 8 or would fans prefer a top 5 ?

Back in '91 Norths V Penrith (week 1 Major semi) attracted over 38,000
to the SFS.

In '91 Penrith were minor premiers and did not play in Week 1. Norths defeated Manly in Week 1 to reach the Major Semi, which was played in Week 2.

How does one explain this lack of self-confidence league has? Just a complete and utter inability to be proactive and back their endeavours - a lack of entrepreneurship. Not just limited to Australia either, the same malaise is prevalent in England (though the WC was great), France etc. and infiltrates up to the highest echelons of the leadership. Canada, the US and Jamaica seem to hold an anti-dote of sorts, maybe we should get some of them into leadership positions.

After working with the affiliated states management I can assure you that you are correct - its almost as if we just accept mediocrity. Trying to build the game down here - the biggest enemy has been the NRL officials responsible for game development outside of traditional markets and I can assure you they have no vision at all - and I am referring to the Sydney based officials - not the poor bastards on the ground.

Watching the build up this week for these games has been a bit sad. Its time we started to strut and tell people what a great game we have.

I just hope Smith and co read this stuff as they need to listen.

Including your own, the great SBW was no where to be seen for the majority of the finals last year.

yep, circa 25k in tonight.

And we are all left embarrassed again by rugby league's 'heartland', these shitty pathetic crowds are not sustainable for competition rounds, let alone finals!

They either don't have fans or they are apathetic about their club, either way it's not much incentive to keep them in the competition.

Finals were quite an event back in the day.

Canberra Vs Brisbane crowds were always big as well. Who wouldn't want to watch two classic teams like that on a nice saturday/sunday arvo? sorry to say all the finals teams are pretty mediocre these days.

Not sure why people are complaining about manly fans having to slog it home from the city then back to the SFS. Having been to brookie many times the majority of those in attendance don't exactly look like they are working as investment bankers on the way home from the CBD... :sarcasm:

Honestly though considering how much Souffs go on about supplying 75% of the crowd to all games they play you'd think there would be 25k rabbits fans there tonight given there was over 30k people at the SFS in round 26, and that wasn't even a final

A simple, simple initiative by the NRL - with the State Government, pay for shuttle buses from Brookvale direct to the SFS, announce it a few times in the media - would surely get a few extra thousand fans across the bridge. It's brainnumbingly simple.

Coordinated shuttle buses directly to the ground from a few key points in the supporter suburbs should be run for every finals game. The NRL have the data and the cost-benefit is obvious.

Pretty sure they did that and they also did it last year, the NRL had free buses and gave out free manly flags. It is a club problem.
