I heard you lot are not getting access to the Bulldogs away either.

There is no "Bulldogs away" for the Saints this year - they host us at ANZ on Mother's Day and WE have to pay our own way. Wait til a week before the game, Bulldogs fans will make some huge f**king noise about it too.

I was just discussing this topic with my brother who follows NRL and AFL.

He reckons the biggest issues are watered down beer and ridiculous food prices.

I agree with him. I went to a Storm game last year at AAMI and was basically appalled by the pricing of food and half strength beverages.

At Shark Park last week I got 4 full strength drinks for $26 - now that is fine - the $38 I paid for 4 half strength drinks at AAMI the year before was a disgrace.

ANd yes it does make a difference. And for those who do not think it should matter, for a lot of people it does.

Previous comments about ANZ Stadium struck a chord as well. I went to SOO last year and was surprised I cannot only get half strength muck outside the ground.

It is a joke. That stuff has no taste at all. I will only go back to AAMI or ANZ with a hip flask. :)

Matters a lot less if the stadium is close to pubs and bars. At aami the other week we had a few on southbank before the game, at nib Saturday we went in the Brisbane for a few before walking to the game. Don't feel the need to drink over priced pish at the ground when had a few pints of decent stuff before the game. Even I can go 90mins without a beer!

All points are great, but have to disagree about the stadium in Perth. NIB is a great place to watch league with excellent facilities and it still has further expansion and upgrades to go.

The phase one upgrade has made a massive difference to the experience, atmosphere and viewing at nib. There is a phase 2 plan that will see the ground around 25k covered seating all around but won't happen until we get an NRL team and the three eventual tenants are regularly getting 17k plus.

Perth is set to be bigger than a Brisbane in just 15years. It reflects how badly our game has been run over the last 15years there is still no plan to have a club here.

You realise the rest of your post confirms that the bit in bold is not true? You are away, it just happens to be ANZ but you're the away team. Like you say, members have to pay to get in.

Oh FFS BunniesMan. You are either an awesome troll or the stupidest poster on this forum. I'm going with the latter

I like the Monday games but TV execs shouldn't choose who plays on Mondays, or Fridays for that case too

In theory clubs playing in local areas or smaller cities should cope better with Monday nights as it should be easier for fans to get there on time? TV still rates extremely well on Monday so it ain't going anywhere. Maybe some unitiatives from the NRL, cough cough, might not be a bad idea.

"John Sutton will be honoured at the SCG on Saturday night as he breaks Bob McCarthy's record for the most performances with South Sydney, despite the match being a St George Illawarra home game.

Sutton's 212th game for the Rabbitohs will not be the only history made at the ground as the clash also marks the first gate-sharing arrangement between rival NRL clubs.

With Souths members able to use their season tickets to gain free entry to the renovated
SCG, the match is as much a Rabbitohs home game as it is a Dragons one.

In turn, St George Illawarra members will receive the same entitlements when Souths host the Dragons at ANZ Stadium in round 12.

The four-year deal, under which St George Illawarra play home matches against the Rabbitohs at the SCG until the end of the current NRL broadcast agreement in 2017, is the first attempt by clubs to follow the lead of their AFL counterparts by working together to turn regular season games into marquee events.

Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert said in last Saturday's Herald that growing membership and crowd figures were vital to the financial viability of NRL clubs and Dragons CEO Peter Doust and his Rabbitohs counterpart, Shane Richardson, agree.

St George Illawarra are already involved in the annual Anzac Day game with Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, while Souths and Canterbury play each Good Friday at ANZ Stadium but neither match involves clubs sharing the gate receipts as the Dragons and Rabbitohs will on Saturday night.

While there has been criticism about the efforts of some clubs to promote games by withholding star players from the media when they play away, that will not be the case this week from Souths.

In fact, the charm offensive has already begun, with Sam Burgess being available to reporters for 10 minutes after Sunday's loss to Canberra in what was the English superstar's first real interview since announcing he was defecting to rugby union at the end of the season.
Souths and St George Illawarra will conduct a joint news conference on Tuesday, featuring Sutton and NSW Origin fullback Josh Dugan, who will make his first appearance of the season for the top of the table Dragons next Saturday night, along with former greats from both clubs.

"We have got a commitment from the NRL to have this as our home game for the next four years and Souths have been very keen, given the size of their brand, to work together to share in our opportunities," Doust said.

"For many, many years, the Dragons have been the leading team at away venues and we have always argued that the investment we have made in our brand over the last 14 years as St George Illawarra has not always been reciprocated by the teams we have played.

"But with Souths we can't say that and they have had a very, very successful recent era so this is a great opportunity for us to build a support base around this marquee event that we can share and to work together to drive attendances.

"That is what we have to do in rugby league – we need to get more flavour behind each of our games to give people a reason to put aside whatever else they have got to do in their busy lives and come to our game. The AFL has been doing it for 10 years with their games."
Since 2007, crowds at the ANZAC Day match between the Dragons and Roosters has grown from 18,240 to 40,752 last season, while last year's Good Friday fixture between Souths and the Bulldogs drew a then-record NRL regular season of 51,686.

Unlike the AFL, which has a formal gate-sharing arrangement for all games, NRL clubs usually only bank the profits from home games but Richardson predicted deals like the one between Souths and the Dragons would become more common.

"What Gary Pert said in your paper on Saturday about growing crowds is exactly what I have been saying for ages and Saturday night is the start of that," Richardson said.

"It is the start of two great clubs working together to promote a traditional game at a traditional ground and then reciprocating that back at ANZ Stadium later in the season.

"This is the first time it has been done in the NRL but I think it will be the first of many occasions where we have reciprocal rights and the clubs work together with our biggest stars to promote the game for the game's sake."

If the NRL made it easier to get tickets to matches it may help crowds.

Can't yet buy a ticket to the Manly vs Cowboys game at Bluetongue Stadium in 17 days time.
I have been to the ticketek website but you require a password to buy tickets to the game. I don't have any password.

Why make it so bloody hard and frustrating?

A casual fan would not bother.

The away games are not included for "free" in any of our packages except for Platinum, which costs $1350. Yeah, heaps free!

All others we pay for.

For eg, current prices (after 2 home games down)

"All in plus" packages - all remaining home games plus 2 away ANZ $201 (bronze)
"All in" package - all remaining home games $167 (bronze)

i.e. "reciprocal rights" to attend away games against souths and dogs actually costs us $34.

"metro pass plus" - all remaining sydney home games plus 2 anz away $167 (bronze)
"metro pass" - all remaining sydney home games $145

i.e. "reciprocal rights" to attend away games against souths and dogs actually costs us $22.

Its not free. You have to opt in. Why would you bother, especially when you dont know if you'll be able to make Monday night vs souths? You'd just wait and buy GA on the night like normal

People expecting 17,000 dragons members getting free entry vs souths and dogs are wrong wrong wrong.

There will be lucky to be 1000 with entry and they will have opted to pay for that ticket pro rata.

Meanwhile we're letting ALL souths members into the SCG 100% free

Unbelievable

Saint Doc "reciprocal rights" work differently for every team and based on what "ground" games are held at so it's not that simple. If you think ALL Souths members get free entry into the SCG this saturday night then you're WRONG. I for instance had to buy a specific membership to get "reciprocal rights" to the Tigers, Dogs and Dragons games this year. IT WASN'T FREE mate.

Now I don't know what sort of memberships the Dragons offer but; "All in plus" packages - all remaining home games plus 2 away ANZ $201 (bronze) sounds about right (I'm assuming this is some sort of GA membership as it's bronze).

I had to pay about $385 (if memory serves me correctly as opposed to $325) and get the second most expensive membership to get reciprocal rights to those 3 games. Giving reciprocal rights to away games is a good marketing strategy for the NRL because it gets away supporters to games but season ticket holders from ALL clubs end up paying for it 1 way or another.

TV game still rates well on the Sunday night as well.

This is where the compromise should be made.
Sunday night instead of Monday night in total.

The many problems associated with Monday night games as far as impacting the next weekends round, the fans, training and club routines would be avoided. You still get a good TV timeslot on the Sunday and you can have a weekend review of the footy at 7pm on Monday. I'm sure most fans would prefer that and I believe genuine decent administrators.
