09 Dogs/Eels atmosphere was so good because it was a hard fought contest which kept both sets of fans in the game ,it was in the balance for the majority until the Eels pulled away late

Closest thing to a GF outside a GF. Once again the common denominator is the Dogs.

I should hope so seeing it is your home ground and all the success you have had over the years cheating the salary cap. Money I suppose can buy loyalty after all for a while at least anyway.

Cheated for two seasons, were punished and moved on.

I'd love to know how we cheated the cap in years when we finished 16th, 11th, 9th... etc

It was as close to 50:50 as you are gonna get for a 70,000 game.. Prior to the Reynolds injury both sides of the crowd were full of noise and passion, it definitely died down for Souths at about the 30 minute mark though.

If it was a tight game up until the end I think it would've gone down as one of the best prelims ever in turns of atmosphere.

As it stands, it is the 3rd biggest crowd for a prelim in Rugby League history. It was about 4k short of Dogs/Eels in 09 and 1k short of Tigers/Dragons in 10.

250376 is the cumulative crowd figure for the first 3 weeks of the finals. It's down on 2011, 2010 and 2009, but it is higher than any year from 1999-2008. Going through the same period, this was our 3rd best prelim round behind 2010 and 2009. A few underwhelming crowd in the first 6 finals games cost us the record (2010, 268k).

Broncos are usually good for 2 x 50000 crowds, their fade out hurt.

In 2009 Brisbane had 1 home final, in 2010 (3rd highest) they didn't make the finals at all.

Week 2 killed us this year though, from the sample I've taken (1999-2012) week 1 was the third highest (behind 06 and 11), week 3 was the 3rd highest (behind 09 and 10) while week 2 was 8th highest (ahead of only 99, 00, 01, 03, 04 and 10).

I think it's pretty pointless to compare final series crowds from previous years, since it all basically comes down to which teams make the 8, which teams end up playing each other and who gets the home games.

This year we had some smaller clubs like Cronulla Manly NQ and Canberra in the finals. If we ever have a year where Souths, Wests, Parra, St George, Canterbury & Brisbane make the finals then obviously the crowds would be HUGE.

I reckon all up 7-8k at the nsw cup. A lot of tigers fans didn't bother hanging around for the 2nd game.

Iam sure I read a few months a go they were trying to make the QLD Cup more attractive like a 2nd tier comp to the NRL with expansion ?

I was at Saturday's game as a neutral (well technically, I'm a Rooster so was cheering the Dogs massively).

Dogs fans edged out Souffs imo, but 55:45 at the absolute most....great effort from both clubs and the atmosphere was sensational.
