1995: 265,609 (17,707 Avg)
2000: 263,921 (8,514 Avg)
2008: 128,964*

So we need 134,957 to beat the 2000 aggregate and 136,645 to beat the 1995 aggregate with 10 games left... possible?

Tonight's result certainly doesn't help, but we know the final will at least be 45,000 or above, the Brisbane semi will be above 22,000, and the Sydney semi will be above 12,000, so thats 79,000 just in those 3 (and hopefully they all draw more than that)...

I sure hope Sydney gets more than 12,000...We should be looking at 35k again if we aren't kidding ourselves. Which semi is in Sydney btw, 1 v 4, or 2 v 3. I pity the team that finshes 4th to come up against a sh*t hot Australian side

Unless PNG cause the biggest upset of all time, the Sydney semi-final will be 1v4.

Australia were guaranteed to play in Sydney regardless of which position they finish.

Ahh the 12K I was talking about was known ticket sales for the Sydney game, as it will be Australia v someone, hopefully it will draw around the 30K mark again.

Scotland vs France - 9,287
Australia vs NZ - 34,157
Tonga vs Ireland - 6,165
Samoa vs Tonga - 11,787
France vs Fiji - 9,213
PNG vs Kiwis - 11,278

We need big crowds for the PNG vs Aus, Kiwis vs England, both semi finals and the final to keep the average over 16,000.

Both will be 20-25k I reckon.

We'll be lucky to get 15 K up here for ENG V NZ. No one knows its on and Novacastrians are farily fickle when it comes to anything.

Based on the conservative figures that means we only need about 40,000 people to rock up to the remaining 2 pool games, the pool play off and the two ranking games. Shouldn't be too hard. Average of 8-9,000 will do us.

Lots of poms and Kiwis living within commuting distance of EAS will make up a decent crowd without having to worry too much about the travelling fans, but they will be there as well - not to mention local footy fans.
The crowd at Newcastle will be decent.

There was a recorded 6K worth of English fans in Melbourne, and it was also announced in a few different media outlets. There were possibly some others floating around as well, although you can understand why they may not have been too keen to don the St George cross during the game.

I think the Newcastle match will be alright, England and NZ whilst both wanting to hold their cards close to their chests, know they need to find form now if they want to have a chance against Australia in the final. If I was the English I'd be a bit worried about losing this weekend as well... say if they lost to NZ by 10 and Australia just happened to suddenly fall apart and lose by say...6 to PNG, their cup campaign would be over....very unlikely yes...but still stranger things have happened
