Course he was asked. And he answered poorly and showed he still had the same mindset as always. Feleti is NEVER going to take the bit between his teeth and drag his team to success. He's been good for you this year, but not great, and he won't do anything to help your team improve.

Interesting, in the games that really matter like the 2009 GF, in the second half and with some help from Fui, Feleti almost won the game on his own.

This comment of yours is misguided: "Feleti is NEVER going to take the bit between his teeth and drag his team to success."
On that day he did just that.

As for a few forumites posting in this thread.......
With shit all around and being part of this shit - the shit only knows shit and will fight for shit for shit is all that they live for.

Fui nearly won us the 09 GF by himself. I'm still bitter that Slater won the Clive Churchill.

It's a joke of an award. The selectors decide who wins 20 minutes before the game is over so the trophy can get engraved in time for the presentation. The game goes for 80 minutes not 60.

Except he didn't.

He waited until the game was as good as over, relaxed and played with some confidence, and as soon as we got within a converted try he went back to hoping someone else would stand up.

He did run for the most metres in the game though, with Hayne second (of all 34 players). Mateo was always better when he focused on running rather than passing.

Bad luck for the Eels this year that it didn't go for 75 minutes...Cost them a place in the finals those extra five minutes...

Exactly.

Add to that the fact that Mateo was added to an otherwise fairly stable Warriors squad - on 'star' money, and you'd expect him to make the team better.

To draw an analogy with our own team, Poore + Tahu in 2010. They came in, we EXPECTED the '09 GF team to be a better team in 2010, but we weren't.
Conclusion: we spent our dough in the wrong place - didn't need props/centers, needed halves.

Mateo is like Frank Pritchard in a lot of ways; both fantastically talented footballers who can bring so much to the table, and can even win a game each year pretty much on their own. But if you pay them top dollar, you're not a top team.

He ran for the most metres for NZthis year.

Is that fat and lazy?

Thats a hard working playing style.

as sprays go its pretty tame really i think calling his comments an 'attack' and a 'backhander' is stretching things a bit

I agree its a storm in a tea cup. We had our shot with Mateo. It failed. Things might have been better if we'd had a real halfback from 2008-2011. Maybe he wouldn't have been cut and we wouldn't have been obsessing so much about his role in attack (and defence). I think that in the absence of a real halfback our expectations re attacking players shifted heavily to Mateo and Hayne (justifiably). Perhaps that played a role in DA or whoever saying he wasn't in the long term plans.

Warriors can have him. He's been good for them, but seriously, the same flaws are still there. Laziness, especially in defence, and the ability to completely lose his head and put them under all sorts of pressure. He's a very, very talented player but Horo honestly does as good a job as he was doing on way less money. If not for the Warriors pack and halves, no one would have noticed Mateo at all IMO.
