Those on the left of society will always defend the offender's actions and believe in rehabilitation and second chances regardless of how heinous they maybe.

Personally I believe if the right are so strongly against Metcalf being allowed to play rugby league again make sure voice be heard beyond the forum. Contact the media, the NZ Warriors, the sponsors of the NZ Warriors such as Vodafone, the NRL and the NRL's sponsors to put pressure on the Warriors to release him. With enough objection it will happen.
you can always count on at least one idiot to come up with a left-wing v right-wing argument..

its like you have to be on team blue or team red...

grow up FFS... make decisions on the issues at hand and how you feel... dont follow some preconceived ideology to make you feel smarter.

Would you be happy to win the premiership full of pedos and murderers if they
served their sentances ?

Ooh, ooh, I can play this game.

What if they were all fairies and goblins? Or hot lesbians and midgets? Would I be happy then? Huh, huh?

So now the Warriors are full of pedos and murderers? FFS....talk about stretching your argument too far.

And served their sentence is the key phrase here....he has done his allotted punishment, and now has every right to get on with his life....as he chooses.

Everyone here saying he has a right to start playing again, given a second chance, is not saying what he did is not deplorable. And no one is saying he should be forgiven for what he did. But as you said, he served his time and now gets the chance to better his life for himself and his family.

how about being a bricklayer or millions of other jobs...?

NRL repuation will be damaged...

Who's to say that he will go into that and get a job doing it? He has already secured a job with the Warriors.

NRL reputation will be damaged..please.

Im assuming the majority of opinions in here are coming from people who have never been to a jail/gaol and dont know/havent met any serious criminals before. If you did you would realise the vat majority of them arent evil people hell bent on ruling the world...Most of them would kill for a second chance (pardon the pun haha), but it is never given to them so they fall back into what they know best.

Give him a chance. if he screws up, execute him. Deal?

The external agency didn't ban him for recreational drug use, they banned him for failing a drug test on three separate occasions. The differences are slight, but they are there. The external agency is bound by the World Anti-Doping Code, developed by WADA, which states that any player that fails three in-competition drug tests must receive a lifetime ban.

While you could argue that it was designed to catch doping cheats and instead caught someone it wasn't intended to catch, it's irrelevant to the case. ASADA, while the enforcers of said ban, have absolutely no say in the length or severity of it. They are bound by a worldwide code to enforce a lifetime ban.

What you are in essence saying is that the fact that someone was stupid enough to continue doing drugs after twice being caught and told a third positive test would mean a lifetime ban was given said lifetime ban, which was mandatory under a worldwide code means that another person who committed a horrible but completely different crime should be banned despite there being no obligation to do so?

And I'm the one who doesn't get it?
FMD, the NRL is a private organisation that is free to refuse to register any player they wish. They are under no obligation to register a player just because said player wants to be registered.

In 2006, Tevita Latu punched his girlfriend in the face and broke her nose ... he was de-registered by the NRL and told that the NRL would NEVER register him again. See http://www.smh.com.au/news/league/sacked-for-bashing-woman/2006/05/23/1148150260168.html

So they were willing to de-register a player for life because he broke his girlfriend's nose.

And yet here is a bloke who tried to kill his child and beat his girlfriend to a pulp ... and the NRL are happy to have him playing again

I am not objecting to the fact that someone should be barred for drug use when they fail the anti-doping tests policy.

I am objecting to the fact that the NRL is not following its own precedent and is willing to let this person play in their competition and damage their brand, marketability etc.

I've seen players banned for life for pushing a ref, banned for life for popping some steroids, imo he should have been banned for life. This wasn't a teenage mistake, it was a terrible crime and I don't care how old he was. I'd be filthy if my club had signed him.

Oh yeah, I forgot the part where all women will now be flocking to the footy because they want to watch a guy who tried to kill his girlfriend and child, simply because he was desperate not to have the kid

Is that really the concern out of the whole argument is it? Really. The issue is that women wont want to see a convicted crim play footy...really?

Because women stay away from anything that contains even the possibilty of a former criminal being involved  Thats why Kings Cross is so devoid of women is it?

When Greg Bird "didnt" glass his girlfriend...amazing impact on the crowd wasnt it?

FMD the kid isnt even in first grade yet. The fact that he has earnt a contract shows at least he is putting in some effort at turning things around.

Whereas I have no problem with Metcalf playing and think Latu should never have been permanently banned.

Seems like the weight of opinion on this thread has finally turned. Thank God. At least there are some decent, moral people in RL land.

I bet you if all the people on this forum who think he should be allowed to play will think differently if that girl was their mother/wife/child.

They are blinded by their support for club or game.

Yet they will support life ban for Falaou/hunt for chaning codes

passing judgment on other posters morals forum is pretty easy over an anonymous internet forum.

how do we know your not a hypocrite who's bagging everyone off about there morals in one window... with another window open full of child porn.

the soft option would be to take the moral high ground and turn your back on him for good...

The Warriors have knowingly made a very tough decision knowing full well the consequences of it because they believe that everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

theres a lot of character in that...
