Does Brad Arthur deserve the hype?

You don't reckon that people constantly knocking, constantly finding the worst in any situation pisses other people off? What would you rather that we got annihilated by a below strength Warrior team? Why are the Warriors injury / suspension problems any different to those that have confronted our team throughout the year? We are bloody ordinary, we need to improve every facet of our game, but we are not a basket case. We will become a basket case if we got through another cycle of lumping it all on the coach, sacking him, starting again, sacking him.
Those people who keep on praising is just as bad

People need to accept everyone has different opinions - but it doesn't mean you have to agree.

For instance, I'm pissed we lost and pissed at that first half - but I'm also quite proud of the effort put in, knowing our roster is so far behind everyone else's it's not even funny.

But that, apparently, makes me an apologist...

Not sure about that tbh...

C'mon ricky had

Ben roberts - corey norman
M.keating - peats
M.ryan - Watmough
B.smith - Manu Mau
cheyse blair - semi redradra
tonga - hoppa

The only difference was he had HAYNE who missed about 8-10 games that year anyhows.

Sure, but I don't think there are too many saying that we are doing well. There's quite a difference between relentlessly praising a player/coach and arguing that our problems derive largely from things other than the week to week coaching decisions. Most of our problems come from the state of our squad, which is the result of years of short-term idiot decisions, which we are only just starting to rid ourselves of, and the decision of wonder boy to leave us mid-contract in October. I don't want any more short-term idiot decisions.

So far behind? In what ways? I think we need a good fullback and another solid wing option. With foran next year if we sort these two out we are top 6 IMO

We aren't? Lets look at the past couple of weeks:

1) All sides of the election for control of the club were fighting, backstabbing, breaking the rules and running to the paper to get their name out there
2) Our star halfback crashes a car he is test driving and flees the scene
3) Our $550K star halfback gets dropped to Wenty and replaced by a plodder of epic proportions
4) 2 players are revealed to be involved in a drug testing scandal and suspended
5) We have the worst defence in the league
6) We are favourites for the spoon.
7) After today we will be coming last

How are we not a basket case?

I suppose certain individual players are better now than a few years back.

To be blunt, our halves and backline are awful; Tepai is a gun but is underdone; our prop rotation isn't as goid as it should be (even allowing for Paulo).

Until arthur makes a prelim final and barely loses to a cheating team or better yet even makes a finals series, Id rather be "not far from where we need to be". Im not going to waste my breath though. Too many bad judges of coaches and talent. 2007 under hagan is the last year we had a consistent team and if the precedent of this club was followed arthur would be gone in 2 weeks time (not saying he should be). Hagans 2008 wasnt even that bad with 11 wins. You think we will win that many this year? Hahahaha

I think arthur will get half of next year with more of his chosen squad to look like making a finals series.

I think you and I disagree on what the phrase 'basket case' means. Do you think we are beyond all hope, like....forever? Simply being among the worst teams in the comp for the past 5 years doesn't necessarily mean we are a basket case......yet (as I said in my original email).

The original 'basket cases' were returned servicemen missing all their limbs, who had to be carried in baskets. We ain't quite there yet.

I guess we do have different opinions on what constitutes a basket case. I believe we are a basket case due to the examples I mentioned. Just out of curiosity could you identify a club that is or has been a basket case in the past?

And it's just another rebuilding year.

You're being glib, but the sad truth is that's exactly what it is. We've been mismanaged for years and we've never rebuilt post-Smith as a club, because the powers that be hired poorly and sacked quickly. We only looked ok in a couple of seasons because of Jarryd Hayne, and he's gone now too.

Rate him or not I think the overwhelming point is that we can't afford to sack Brad Arthur. We need to stick with him for his contract and see where it takes us.
