Picked it up the other day, bit pricey for a local game tbh, struggling with batting but I may just be rob quiney

The only thing I wish it had was controller customisation, so I could set it up for my own liking

Batting IMO is too complicated. I like the idea but having to use the left stick for footwork is a bit much. You just don't get enough time to assess the delivery and make a decision. I get the feeling this game is more about playing it safer than getting a 15 an over slugfest happening. I tried belting Zimbabwe chasing a small total and got 3 down quickly then recovered for a 5 wicket win.

However, this is probably the first cricket game ever where bowling is fun. I actually prefer bowling a lot more than batting. Can't say I've ever felt this way about a cricket game before.

The commentary gets boring but I have noticed it's more in tuned with how each individual game is played rather than hundreds of different catch phrases that really mean nothing. Longer games should get better results.

The academy is just awesome. I hope to Christ this feature is in the next rugby league game and just as deep too.

Yeah the batting is needlessly complicated, but I think in a way its good. Too many cricket games have made batting easy. After a while you do get bored spanking 6's and 4's wherever you want and it is completely unrealistic.

Bowling though, i love it! This is the first game where bowlers get to have a bit of variety and easier control system.

There have been a few stupid things for mine, ie batsmen doing front foot cover drives off 158kph bouncers, and a caught behind which i appealed for but the third umpire only reviewed whether it was an LBW or not. It even showed hotspot and the ball hit the inside edge after bouncing and the keeper caught it.

My first innings batting and I got run out when my batsmen walked into the crease without sliding the bat. Not exactly realistic.

I ran a guy out who was standing around at the non strikers end when the ball was thrown in.

must say though, the good far outweighs the bad.

In the domestic first class season, after 5 games, Phil Hughes is averaging 7.79 and Maxwell has scored 3 successive centuries.

As it should be lol

How frustrating are the run outs unit. A few time now I've driven the ball straight to mid off, to then have the fielder whip it back and run the non striker out. Comfortable singles, where I've whacked it to deep mid wicket end up with me getting run out cos I didn't dive to make the crease.

Agree the batting needs you to have bullshit fast responses and the only way I've combatted it is to pre determine what foot I'm playing off. Plenty of time in the nets so fR working out what's the safest shots to play off either foot based on the length. Sorta glad in a way that it's hard as it seems you actually need plenty of patience to rack up a big score. Still haven't hit a half century in career mode yet. Got to the 40's a few times.

Think I need to give bowling a bit more of a go tho if what you lads are saying about it is right. Every other cricket game I've played, the bowling has been trash and it seemed it was more based on when the computer thought it was time for a wicket to fall.

Anyone else reckon James Brayshaw has the game just so he can watch some more Big Show.

the bowling is much quicker and easier to master.

if you time your jump too early, you'll push the ball down the leg side (to right handers) it seems. So stay boiwling over the wicket to left armers (if you are a right armer quick) as they will go outside off.

The other thing about the batting is there seems to be a tendency for the batsmen to constantly hit the ball in the air, i get caught a lot going for a seemingly simple push to mid off or at square leg.

It'd be a good if there was a little pic in the corner showing the field placement before every delivery.

When bowling, the captain seems to be Alastair Cook more often than not, but with no one deepish on the square leg boundary and fine leg being fine as all hell it seems.

When you're running between wickets you should sprint just before you get to the crease the batsman will slide his bat then.

Yeah I just sprint for most now, and when I'm down the non strikers I hit circle(Ps3) as soon as a shot is played. The non striker run outs have been the most frustrating so far.

waiting for the screen to pan out to see if the striker has hit the ball past a fielder is also a bitch

Yeah specially when you don't manually check the field in time before the bowler starts his run up. Not even any options to get a little radar style map on the HUD.

so into my career. My batting is getting better hitting some fours and then getting out off being caught behind

But just finished a one day match and once i got back to the main menu i had offers from a T20 Aussie side

Adelaide Strikers
Melbourne Stars
Perth Scorchers

Thinking of going with Stars

Yeah you definitly have to persevere with the career mode when it comes to batting. I've finished the big bash that your getting offers for Nath, finding it much easier in the shorter formats to gets 20+ scores.

Te way I'm looking at it, I'm just trying to build up the skills slowly the first season and not worrying too much about trying to crack big scores. Learning to defend balls a lot more as well which is definitly helping.

stupid me only just realised that you can change the field when you are bowling. before you select what type of delivery you bowl, press the up button on the control pad

Just managed to put together a good run of games in my career. 4 40's, 2 30's and my first half century which came in a Big Bash game. Found my comfort zone for shots, where i play a majority of my shots on the on side. Still can't play cut shots too well so I'm limited to whipping off my pads or driving of either foot so far.

Loving it so far.

I turned the commentary off and it's actually a lot better without it. The ground announcer in the background keeps up with things pretty well
