I just hope the club has a contingency plan in place... Because if we offload Dufty for Hayne, and Hayne doesn't fire at fullback, we're immediately going to have to hit the market again.

If, if, if …………………………. Hayne will be a good fit at fullback for the Dragons. Finally we will have a dangerous backline in attack and a very solid backline in defence:

1. Hayne
2. Pearson
3. Lomax
4. Mann
5. Pereira
6. Widdop
7. Hunt

We may find ourselves with additional salary cap space if Aitken and Lafai request a release.

Makes a mockery of the Pathways program if it happens ?

Really, those in charge of Pathways should have weeded out small backs from consideration for first grade. If such players do bulk up and maintain their speed, reconsideration for NRL selection can be made.

Field and Dufty are more suited to the halves than fullback. So it seems Field is on the right track and may be used if/when Widdop is out injured or on rep duties.

It appears to me that the long-term plan is to play Lomax at fullback. In two years time I would be sure that this will happen. You have to remember that Saab should be ready for first grade by then and that will see out the contracts of a current two Centers.
The tunnel may seem dark at present but there's definitely lights at the end of the tunnel.
I have a strong feeling that Pearson will be a gun for us on One Wing add to him Lomax and Saab (hopefully), and the addition of 2 new centres (maybe Masters and anorher young gun) our 2021 is looking really good.
Shame it seems such a long way away.

At my age I am running out of time to see one more premiership. Hope it’s just around the corner

His defence is as suspect as Dufty’s so how is he an option?
Agree but, I still have this picture in my mind of a scared little FB not willing to contest the high ball & beaten hands down every time he was confronted with a broken field runner. Comparing Field & Dufty, I don't think you gain or lose anything in defence as they are as bad as one another, however, maybe Field gives a better ball playing option & is Quicker than Dufty plus I do recall he actually took a hit up in his debut without trying to crab sideways & you would hope he wouldn't let the ball bounce ???
I know players take & should be given time to grow into a position but their is not enough room for both.
If their were a couple more rounds before the finals this year, I'm positive Field would have been sent into bat.
For those reasons they would not come within cooee of Hayne, even with all the antics he brings.
Option 1. Hayne.
Option 2. Field.
Option 3. Someone else.

Mate I personally think Hayne will be good for us , but don't want to lose a long term option in Dufty either ... Would be good if they are both with us ....
yes, youd think we could wouldnt you? Look at the Roosters! I mean how do they manage to have a team FULL of Internationals and huge name players?? but we cant even have little Dufty and add Hayne!

Field and Dufty are more suited to the halves than fullback. So it seems Field is on the right track and may be used if/when Widdop is out injured or on rep duties.

If the mercenary Jarrod Hayne at age 31 (by March 2019) thinks he's worth $700,00pa with his history of a poor attitude to training, inconsistent form, and unresolved criminal charges which may not be resolved before 2020, about half of this figure you would think is feeding his inflated ego and his legal fees.

And, if Dufty, at age 22 has to be onsold to fund the deal, I'm even more outraged. Like many of us, I have my problems with Dufty at FB at present but his outstanding attacking potential is worth persevering with, at least in the short term. He played in the halves during his junior days and has shown he can throw a long, accurate, cut out pass for a try assist displaying good vision, a key asset for a half, in the process.

Widdop will turn 30 next year and is at the back end of his career you would think. When Hunt and Widdop have finished up, I'm thinking that a halves combination of Dufty and Field with their electric pace, might light up Jubilee like Steve Morris did all those years ago. Yes, their defence and kicking games will need to improve but they're young enough to acquire these skills. One skill you can't coach is natural speed which they have in bucket loads.

Hayne decision on whether to leave Parramatta for the Red V

Decision day is fast approaching for Jarryd Hayne with St George Illawarra returning to full pre-season training on Monday.

One way or another, the Dragons would like to know at some stage next week if the two-time Dally M Medal winner wants in with them for 2019.

The Dragons are adamant they are not attempting to push young fullback Matt Dufty out of the club to sign Hayne.

Rather, the Dragons’ interest was sparked as a direct result of utility back Kurt Mann’s request for a release.

Mann has an option to link with Newcastle where he believes he has a better chance of nailing down a starting spot and the Dragons are open to the move providing they can find a suitable player to fill the spot available on their roster.

And they make no secret of the fact Hayne could be that man.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal that both head coach Paul McGregor and recruitment boss Ian Millward have both spoken with Hayne about the possibility and have been hugely impressed with Hayne’s attitude and football intelligence.

The decision Hayne now has to make is if he wants to stick it out and see if Parramatta can come up with the money to make him a serious offer, or join the Dragons where he will be a part of a squad that is a legitimate premiership threat.

While Hayne has achieved pretty much every individual goal on offer in the game, they one thing he has never done is win an NRL title and the reality is time is running out for him to do that.

The Dragons are prepared to be patient but they would still like to know sooner rather than later so they can also give Mann clarity about his future, given Mann’s release hinges on the club finding a suitable replacement.

It’s no secret Hayne’s first priority is to stay at Parramatta but as it stands the Eels just don’t have the money in their salary cap to make Hayne a genuine offer.

It has been reported Hayne is chasing a deal worth about $700,000 a season but unless Parramatta can offload a top shelf player they just can’t fit him in.

Eels turn on each other
Adding to the Eels’ dilemma, the chances of offloading Michael Jennings to Newcastle now appear less likely following Hymel Hunt’s decision to move to the Knights.

While the Dragons are somewhat short of the money Hayne is chasing, they are a lot closer to the ballpark and they are also open to making the deal longer than just the one year.

Understandably, speculation about Hayne’s possible link with the Dragons has caused Dufty some anxious moments but the club do not want to push the 22-year-old out to make way Hayne.

There were some questions raised about Dufty late in the season but the way he bounced back to form against Newcastle in the final round earned plenty of praise from within.

No doubt if Hayne does go to the Dragons it will put added pressure on Dufty to keep hold of the No 1 jumper but ultimately it will come down to who plays the best football next year.

Hayne would also be ideal playing wing or centre and given the Dragons have lost both Jason Nightingale (retirement) and Nene Macdonald (North Queensland) Hayne would be the perfect fit.

As good as Hayne would be for the Dragons, they also believe the culture within their playing group would have a positive impact on Hayne

Mate once again how in the world could you consider playing Mann at fullback?

He can’t ball play, he got absolutely destroyed every time he played there, we have Dufty, field, sailor, marsters at the club who are all miles ahead of Mann as a fullback.

Seriously you guys have to get over Mann, he is not worth all the hype.

Your opinion is noted.

There is no reason why they could not afford both. There are others that could be offloaded before Dufty.who are off contract at the end of this year.
Give the kid a chance to fully develop and grow into the riole FFS. As I have said before if he under performs this year then no one will pay 700K and his price will come down. If he does perform improve then 700K is a good buy for him. Offload Nicholls, say a Latimore or even Mann if we have to and someone else can manufacture into a back utility as they are both off contract in 2019
I would be playing Hayne centre (but not paying 700K a year), with Lomax the other centre. I would be trying to offoad Aitken, Lafai and Mann. If we could, I would be targeting another good outside back with the available salary cap space.

If Newy is where Mann ends up, still don't knew where he plays?

With Ramien, Moga, SKD, Edrick Lee and Hymel Hunt, he'll have as many people in front of him as the Dragons do (assuming that's why he wants out).

There were reports around a month ago that Brown wants to turn him into a hooker
