Yep, I agree how good a player was doesn't transcend into his coaching ability, but someone quoted "I loved everything he's done in his time as a player" I remember wanting to run onto the field and clobber him over the head he was that shit.

I must be honest I don't follow footy as closely as I once did, but I do remember a coach at Newcastle named Rick Stone who seemed to do a really good job there with a fairly ordinary roster. I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Yes he put together an ordinary roster due to not being able to attract big names. We already have a coach like that.
he had inconsistent results.
i dont think he is the answer.

I thought he ran a great club into the ground... The whole club was a shambles when Benny went there..

I could forgive Price though if he was really trying, we were doing our best & we just didnt have the personnel.

We knew his selection was going to be brutal before it happened, but my issue with Price is that he seems to have 0 innovation in his coaching, its just the bog standard safe selections and tactics each week, and I want a bloke who atleast has a go and tries things before were in the sh**.

Agree..although I don't understand everyone saying Price doesn't have the personnel...He has has 2 off seasons to get the players needed...our recruitment has been Poor...Price is apart of that equation also.

Not even Bellamy or Bennett can do much with Fien and Soward in the halves. Price does not have the personnel and now we are suffering for not getting in early and getting some decent players instead of waiting until the last minute and getting no one. Every other team stocked up but not us...Always relying on juniors like chumps....

It certainly appears that the strategy for local juniors was a two edged sword. We've just, in reality, been blessed with a golden era of talent across the park.

We still develop better than anyone else (or, at least we have up until now), but the squad needs to be supplemented. Its clear that Young can't get deals done.

Just freshen it up & end the cronyism.

We can't even get juniors back into positions we need filled eg centres such as Linnett, Whare. Am ignoring the grub BJ .
I hope we are actively and professionally perusing a half. Some signing for next year (if not this) like the Rorters did with Maloney would give us supporters something to cheer about.
Price has to go . Sheens anyone ? I don't know Tony Smiths credentials. Would be happy with Daniel Anderson.

Maguire lost Sandow and replaced him with Reynolds, Josh Reynolds at Canterbury played ahead of a Grand Finalist Hodkinson last season, Cartwright gets rid of Prince and plays Sezer.

If Price was a decent coach he would have done what these guys above have done instead he persists with crap in the halves and does not give the junior halves a crack. Rubbish coach. It's obvious where the problem is but he does not want to fix it yet persists with mediocrity.

Hodkinson never played a grand final.

In any case, Kyle Stanley was set to be given a starting halves berth this season - a junior half being given a crack. Nathan Fien is the plan B.

It's not any one person's fault. Its a myriad of things that have come together. Some were building for years (fein and cooper/sowards confidence problem), others just happened to come upon us (stanley injury).

It sucks, but it wont get any better for a while. At the very least we will see what our club is made of. If it fails Price is gone, simple.

Yes its exactly this.. either a tremendous lack of planning, ability to recruit young players, or Price is putting his faith in the wrong players.

Kyle needed to start his apprenticeship early last season, not throwing him in with no #6/#7 experience (at any grade) when we needed to win every game to make the finals. 2013 is a repeat of 2012, Price has gone the same boring safe approach, he has dont nada... and his Plan A, B & C is hoping that Sowie/Fien will come good. A good club/coach plans and develops players ahead of time... and if Price feels powerless to the board, then hes the wrong man for this job, we need someone who will get his way.

Too little too late, this epic tail-slide has been coming since 2011, most of us were called 'anti-dragon' for being critical of our gameplan and player selections (even when we were winning the slide was there).

It's now Mid 2013, and 2 weeks into a season.. now.. all of a sudden its panic stations, and whos the new coach? whos the tool on instagram we need to sign for 650k? whos this rabbitohs half we need to sign desperately?

This is stuff we should have actively dealt with about 12-24mths ago, and is what is so heartbreaking to watch the 2010 Premiers slide into such an obvious hole, from which it will take great vision and planning to get out of.

As long as Doust is in charge there is no vision and no real plan its no coincidence that before Bennett and after Bennett he is the one who has made the decisions that have been wrong.

Goes all the way back to when Farrar was given the coaching gig then Brown and Now Price he sure as hell hasn't learnt a thing, jobs for the boys same as Young senior he shouldn't have a job at the club well in a capacity in terms of recruiting.

Price is learning the hard way he's out of his depth and he isn't getting the help he needs to have any type of success.

If the players where behind him like they say they are then why are the results so poor and why do they look so out of their depth.

Its time for a change it starts at the top.

Do you think that Soward/Hornby combination was going to be broken up with two years running on their contracts, respectively? Hornby being our captain and all the rest and Soward the incumbent NSW #6? Kyle got a chance through injury and then got injured himself.

Besides, I don't see how this is relevant at all, we're in the situation we are now because Kyle got injured, not because he didn't have the talent or whatever.

What about Jim Dymock?

Worth consideration, but I'm always unsure whether to judge these honeymoon period coaches or not. Okay, he's only coached one team in one honeymoon period, but who knows how he would last over a season. These periods can even last a season, look at Kevin Moore for example. There must be something about him though, if Dogs fans called for Jim to stay instead of signing Hasler.

Just putting this out there... Why not go after flanno... And go for him now... He certainly gets respect from players, and we would snatch carney up as well.. 2 birds, one stone! If we jag Dugan and he is put in the centres all we need to sign for next year is a half back, with josh and Kyle there as back ups!

Yeh it's been mentioned a couple of times in jubille ave.

I think it's worth looking at and he can bring townsend and carney with him.

Oh how the sharks fans would love that...

Flanno does have some old ties with the dragons I believe, played lower grades or something.
