Dragons statement: Player breach

The obvious issue from the Vaughan-Gate drama is the underlying cultural issues that exist at the Dragon’s & the lack of leadership off the Park.

It’s hard to imagine this happening if Boyd Cordner or Cameron Smith were our Club Captain. We haven’t had a dominant Club Captain since Ben Hornby & it’s no coincidence that we won a comp under Ben’s leadership. In 2010 there was also a very good leadership group including Ben Creagh, Dean Young, Jason Nightingale, Matt Cooper etc. This mass player off field protest wouldn’t have happened in during the glory days of 2009, 2010 or 2011.

Ben Hunt has done ok as Captain but there’s obviously a lack of respect there because the COVID-13 thought they could get away with breaking the rules while Hunt was away for Origin.

So what makes a great Club Captain? He’s usually a one club player who bleeds the Club’s colours & sets the standard at training as well as on game day. He’s usually a Rep player & often a Captain at Rep level. He’s not afraid to call out poor behaviour & challenge his team mates to be better. He has a very strong relationship with the coach & works hand in glove to get the best out of the team.

For mine our potential future club Captain Zac Lomax has completely let himself down by attending the BBQ. Any credibility he had has gone & that’s a huge loss for the Club.

What happened here is a classic ‘while the cats away, the mice will play’ scenario. Lomax & others have shown themselves to be Mice, not Men.

Yes Vaughn’s Efffed up but I can assure you the dragons used that leverage to rid of the 800 grand contract he has in place next year and use it elsewhere. How would any of the media know where JDB was hiding or dufty had a tracker on him. Seriously they saw this as an out to get rid of him. One should ask the media when door knocking neighbors for information is that part of essential work. Why wasn’t Norman told to go. Because he is not costing us anything next year.

On NRL 360 it seemed like Hadley, Hooper and Kent were in a competition to see who was the most personally outraged and offended by the (admittedly stupid) actions of the Dragons players. The players have been caught, punished and subject to further investigation. Give it a rest, move on and try to salvage something from this season.

Hahahaha what? You’re just looking for a fight? So based off what you’re saying (and thanks for correcting me) what the players did was still breaking the law.
I think the whole thing is ridiculous, reactions included. To suggest this could have ended the competition is laughable, especially when you consider what the Bulldogs guys did. They're the ones who actually broke the precious bubble.

They're a bunch of silly boys who get paid too much to play a game, what do you expect from them? If sportsman are the kinds of role models we want, despite them consistently showing how incapable they are then that's on us for putting them on that pedestal.
They play for 80 minutes a week for half the year, and anything else they do is white noise that I couldn't care less about. The game doesn't represent me as a person, the club doesn't represent me as a person so why the furore? There is more important stuff to worry about than how much they let us all down by hiding under a bed. See; unhealthy parasocial relationships.

On a side note, I was just pointing out the actual rules to highlight the inconsistency of your argument. And not trying to start a fight, just highlighting your own passive aggression, that you obviously picked up on.

Now the mole us saying a player made a statement on the issue.
He was one that was not there.
Is this gutter journalism again .
What player would actually say it to a reporter.
In my opinion the mole is bullshitting trying to stir up more trouble.

What happened is most unfortunate and disappointing but it’s more an example of ‘Groupthink’ rather that the the culture of the whole place being “shot to pieces” and a chaotic disaster. Not justifying it at all, but just don’t share the view that “the culture” of the whole club is as toxic as some are making out..

Having a sexual affair is not necessarily a work related matter unless it happened in the work place, with a work colleague, was conducted using work resources, or was the subject of judicial proceedings. As it was neither of the first three, and the judicial gave no definitive result, it is not applicable.

With Vaughan, we do not know the exact circumstances. However for him to have been fined there would have had to be an internal investigation, it would have had to involve happening during work time, in the workplace, or with a work colleague, and Vaughan would have had to have his own representation and be able to tell his side of events for it to hold up under legal due process requirements under industrial law.

Please note, I'm not trying to condone what either JDB of Vaughan did (or didn't do), just explaining the legal aspects as I see them.

That is why, in my opinion, they are not comparable as the circumstances are different.
Yep I get that you are standing from a normal work practice environment, and definitely not condoning their actions.
The NRL is not your normal work environment though. You are stating that it had to be done during work time, the workplace, or a work colleague. Are you saying that NRL players can only get a warning if it involves these times and places that you stated?
Here is what the report said about Vaughan,

"In December 2018, St George Illawarra cautioned the 30-year-old after a woman contacted the Dragons claiming Vaughan had sent her explicit messages.
The woman reportedly wanted to make the photos of the conversation public but then decided against it for legal reasons"

LINK ADDED THIS TIME:

That does not sound like a woman who works at the Dragons, and yet they gave him a strike. Thus very comparable to the De Belin situation.

Mate they are grown men , as such they do not require an off-field leader , only their own sense of responsibility and good old fashioned common sense .

Ryan Webb has made a positive impact in his time as CEO - however in his interview regarding the Paul Vaughan affair he states that he doesn’t think the Dragons have a culture problem!!!
That’s the start of the problem right there!
Not acknowledging a problem is a sure way of not addressing it!
Sorry Mr Webb – there very clearly is a culture problem at the Dragons!
However, you are not the only club with that problem!
We need to seriously look at values across all clubs, particularly values regarding responsibility, reliability and integrity!
And as with all integrity and trust issues, you have to walk the walk, as well as talk the talk!
Clear standards, well explained, widely promoted and modelled, and consistently expected and applied is what is required!

What do you expect him to say publicly ? Privately they are moving on players....they are well aware that there are issues.

The Mole is a known bullshit artist and that's a fact of life...always trying to jag a headline...journalism 101 always says a statement without a name is not a statement..its bullshit...there's no way any current player would say anything

Yeah we're going to have to put up with all the upcoming journo headlines from so called "nameless insider's", the hundreds of ex footballers from 40 years ago now coming out of the woodwork (who were perfect by the way in their career) to put the boot in and two-bit journo's (who never played the game but make a healthy living from it 🤧🤧 cough cough Hadley cough 🤧🤧).
They're really enjoying this story. Careful fellas. For most of you, kill the game with inane reporting and chasing headlines quoting un-named sources and you'll be banished to working for the Sydney Daily Tell-U-Crap. That's the bottom of the rung for credibility.
