May not be the only one unwilling to move to NZ
If you only have 1 year left on your contract it's a big move to have to potentially move again in a year vs say 3 year contract. Stability for kids, partner finding a job potentially.
He clearly didn't see his future with the club in the back row.

I think there will be a large portion of players who will not move here to live. With the Dolphins after players for next year, things are looking bleak for our short term future. I've been worried about this happening since the start of the pandemic and it will only get worse.

This is a good point. Big difference between a settled 3 years and (effectively) an unsettled 1 year contract

We do seem a bit soft when letting people go early. Other clubs seem to hold out for a suitable replacement before releases are granted.
