Expansion only exists to increase revenue & juniors..

...that is all. I find it funny when fans say NRL needs Perth or Adelaide. Unless a city can tick the aforementioned boxes they are not needed & in fact should be avoided. Fans are too obsessed with game becoming "national" but that has nothing to do with the game getting stronger & richer. A non heartland team may require decades of funding & never generate a return or develop a junior.

The best way to grow juniors is by investing directly in grassroots, not by plonking a team there, especially in an area that's already rusted on NRL heartland, if any kid in Brisbane hasnt already been introduced to league a 3rd team isn't going to change anything, better of spending that money directly in improving grassroots facilities and school programs

The best way to grow viewership, fans & revenue om the other habd IS by plonking a team somewhere new

Redcliffe expanded the number of teams yes, but it wasn't an expansion of the games reach, it was consolidation of an already established area

Creating & improving academies better way to start pipeline. Where infrastructure exists it's easier to grow.

Perth or Adelaide would add TV revenue
PNG would add juniors
NZ2 would add a bit of both

What’s the issue here?

There’s only one area that will
grow jnr participation
increase tv revenue
increase sponsorship revenue
expand the game to brand new audience
adds a suitable new tv slot
Has a govt already fronting up cash

perth come on down

To start the pipeline yeah, but heartland areas already have these pipelines and direct investment would have much better effect than simply just "another team"

If anything it would be more beneficial to expand the 2nd division/state cups to foster these pipelines then as they already do have them form feeder relationships and contracts with the NRL clubs

It's an NRLs clubs first and foremost goal is to win premierships, then second generate revenue and increase their fan base, improving grassroots is a nice benefit but really is the state bodies and arlc's job

IMO Ideally we'd expand and pump up the second division a bit, its already basically got a 2 conference set up, then you'd have the Telstra Premiership as the premium, NATIONAL competition with development contracts with the expanded second division. Get it to a good enough standard that the tv rights are worth something, double down on the more localised tribal / suburban grown atmosphere, some state cup clubs already excel at this, basically just try get every club to their level

2nd div focuses on grassroots and developing young talent, 1st div focuses on winning premierships and expanding the supporter base and corporate side of the NRL, and identifying and further fostering the best talent from the second division, in order to.. win premierships

The reality is Perth and Adelaide will get nrl sides one day. Different teams bring different things

we don’t need to be like afl trying to take over in qld or nsw just to build up a nieche

even 20 teams doesn’t count Adelaide or nz2 so they need at least 22 teams to cover all the places that should get a team

but because of super league expansion got put back 30 years

Sounds great. Who's pumping in the 10's of million a year needed to keep the club going?!

I will, I’m taking the $500k govt money, heading to crown and will fund the tens of millions from my winnings.
