Expansion won't happen anytime soon

In the ideal world where we had an NRL led by decent manage,net we would see two year of decent funding to existing 16 clubs to sort out their incompetence
Perth and Brisbane2 announced in 2018 for 2020 entry to maximise next tv deal likely to be negotiated in 2020
Wellington in 2024 and Adelaide 2025

That would pretty much see the NRL sweet until PNG and Fiji are ready to join

I'm not sure "decent funding" would be enough for some incompetent clubs. Lol.

There can't be too many teams otherwise the talent will be spread too thin, and the quality of the comp won't be as good. The problem is there are too many Sydney clubs.

Relocate Souths I reckon..

They have put themselves in an already crowded West Sydney market, and this has removed them from their traditional base and into an area that is bandwagon support at best...

Last year their crowds were a joke... Their new fans can't even stay solid two years after they won the Premiership...

A couple more years of ineptitude and they will be back down to 7K

I think Buff is just trolling. We had an average home attendance of 14,331 this year, which isn't terrible considering the poor season we had. It's not good, but it definitely isn't the worst of the Sydney clubs. Moving away from ANZ Stadium would be stupid as we have more members in western Sydney than in the South Sydney district, and it's not like it takes long to get to ANZ Stadium from the South Sydney district anyway. The Rabbitohs have a lot of supporters all over the Sydney area, and ANZ Stadium is fairly central in the Sydney area (a lot more central than the SFS). ANZ Stadium will be getting a nice upgrade soon too! ANZ Stadium is our present and future!

Expansion won't happen soon but by 2021/22 i would hope/expect things to change.

In the mean time potential 17th and 18th teams should be laying ground work and schmoozing ministers or sporting bodies for funding agreements. These franchises should have a home base, world class Centre of Excellence, training fields at least. a lot of this is hard to do until nrl promises the franchise but this is what should be the bare minimum for a new team.
