Now that I think about it, it's hardly a surprise that a bunch of Internet fans that post under pseudonyms would react the way they have in this thread. And especially not after viewing some of the bile that gets posted all over the forum. It'd be a very different reaction in a face to face forum with a different demographic, I'm certain.

Which demographic would that be?

Would Hutty be there there singing about jesus, while you all take someones word
for it, that the anecdote you heard demands gaol time.

And that sort of response, calling me a merkin, only adds to what I suggested. Thank you sir

Any demographic. If I went around my workplace and polled 50 people, the percentage of people with my view would be a lot higher than on this site. That's only natural, if those people I poll haven't been conditioned to that sort of behavior as those on here have.

For f**ks sake give it a rest. Its hardly a controversial opinion to think insults on twitter don't deserve the attention of the prime minister.

if robbie was indeed a bully at high school then it's ironic that he should complain about twitter abuse.

I don't think insults on twitter deserve the attention of the prime minister. I simply think people who tweet with the abhorrentness of the original message deserve punishment.

Don't push the freedom of speech barrow then tell me to f**k up.

The Prime Minister?

What a circus.

Those idiots in parliament troll each other throughout question time. I'm quite certain the media aren't really sure what trolling is. I think they envisage hordes of anti-social internet trolls banging down the door of decency.

This really is quite f**king bizarre.

As I've said before, the UK are well ahead in acknowledging the fact that cyber abuse is becoming more and more prevalent. They know the world is changing, that simply standing by and letting this sort of thing go unnoticed has bigger implications further down the line. It's up to the law makers in this case to see a little further than the fact Robbie Farah was subjected to that sort of vileness.

They're not well ahead, it's a perversion of their discrimination laws.

One got locked up for a racist remark, the other a gay crack.

You won't get the same traction about necrophilia remarks, just raised eyebrows.

The courts are brute instruments, and the law is an ass, you dont know what you're wishing for inviting them into this sort of thing.

Farrah should block user and report the comment on twitter not respond to a shadow or some prankster.

The govt cannot do anything as a person can say that to Robbie in person down the street.

But you see this is the problem, you can go around to the general public, but how much of the general public actually know how twitter works and the controls it has? How many people would have experienced what it's uses are?

If would be the equivalent of going around to asking people if MMA should be outlawed... The vast majority know nothing about that sport and have no understanding of how it works and the safety controls, etc. so they can not form an educated opinion on it.

Answer this directly. Had this been in person, do you believe the person should be gaoled for having said it verbally? If so, at what point would you suggest offensiveness should be criminalised?
